Archaeologists at the time suggested that these victims were waiting for rescue, when they were killed instantly from the heat generated by a pyroclastic flow att temperatures of around 500 °C.

Those materials have much less water in them to start with, and often wind up carbonized. In Herculaneum there are carbonized wooden doors that still swing on their hinges.

Nope, but that looks like a story that should be in the GGG, if it isn’t already. That find was of a skull found 100 years ago, and I’ll get right on it. The story, not the skull. :^)

The wood and the cloth was likely carbonized. Any number of items have survived in that manner, especially in Herculaneum. Roof beams, bed frames and other items of furniture have survived. Something to do with extreme heat, but a lack of oxygen.

Pliny the Elder was 55 or 56 when he died so older than they think this person was at the time of his death.

Caesar was 55 when he was assassinated. Lincoln was 56 when he was assassinated.

What do Caesar, Pliny the Elder and Lincoln have in common besides dying at about the same age?

This isn’t Pompeii. The skeletons were preserved in Herculaneum and that’s part of the reason I think Herculaneum is a better visit than Pompeii.
