BSA Motorcycles is back and is set to reveal its first new model in decades on December 4 (Spoiler: this classic Rocket 3 isn't it)BSA Motorcycles VIEW 2 IMAGES
One of the world’s leading motorcycle manufacturers of the 1950s and 60s, BSA is set to resume operations almost half a century after it went bankrupt, funded by its new owner, India’s Mahindra & Mahindra, and with a new factory under construction in England.
BSA Motorcycles Ltd. broke the news with the first ever tweet in its brand new Twitter account: “Return of a Legend. #BSAisBack. We’ve evolved, but our DNA remains unaltered.” The short supporting video features a sequence of emblems from BSA’s long history, ending with the familiar red logo that leads its revival.

I like the singles and have one. 500 Cubic inch in one tall cylinder. It was kind of cool to watch it rotate in a circle around the side stand as it idled. Every time the cylinder hit the tires scooted an inch to the side. lol
Had many big Harley riders try to kick that over and get thrown off because they didn’t know what they were doing. :)
I owned a ‘72 Norton 850. Very strong bike.
On cold start, it would spit a squirt of oil from both pipes...
Yeah I also had a Triumph twin. All those British bikes were oil users and leakers. But then so were Indians and Harleys.
And as you know, there was a very good reason they put compression releases on those old bikes.
COOL!
if there’s no oil under it, there’s no oil in it

Was that the single-cylinder beast?
Bought the Honda 450 instead.
Nostalgia has a limited shelf life and I don’t get the sense that the world is clamoring for another English-made motorcycle.
If it were Vincent or Bruff (Brough), and they at least paid homage to the original design (as Indian has done in its modern incarnation), that’s a completely different question.
But Birmingham Small Arms? C’mon, the Woke crowd will never stand for the “arms” bit.
I think you meant cubic centimeters
I had as my ringtone, for my wife calling me, al bundy banging ona pot singing a song ablut the family being broke while he was paying his bills.
Yes, it was a factory “scrambler” like an enduro. One cylinder tractor. They dominated the off road endurance races for years. Famous for the Barstow Ca to Las Vegas long distance offroad run.
I could put that bike in high gear and ride it anywhere I wanted without needing gear changes. Just accelerate from idle crawl to 80 at the rear tire instantly. Good hill climber, didn’t even feel them.
You absolutely had to be on top of that bike and sit on the front of the tank to keep it down, it was an instant rocket. :)
Yes you are absolutely right, Been talking on another forum all day about car engines. Sorry.
Running like a tractor is what gives it character. If I wanted to sit in a Stratolounger, I’d stay home.
650 right?
Yep, there is just something about twins and thumpers...
Nobody is clamoring for motorcycles anymore. It’s scooters now.
Being a lover of motorcycles and motorcycling is not “woke” They’re noisy, dangerous and they run on fossils fuels. They’re likely going to offend the woke girl that the beta boy is thinking of asking out to the vegan petting zoo.
It’s the torque, I guess. If Honda would reintroduce the Ascot 500 single without any plastic - just pretty much a stripped down, classic street bike with a round headlight and decent brakes - around 380 lbs wet - I’d be the first in line to buy one. What a city commuter that would be
Yep, that pull even at low RPM.
Royal Enfield is a huge bike maker for obvious reasons.
A couple of years ago RE North America decided to make a real push here. They have gone after a neglected segment of the market. Their 650 vertical twins are an aggressive shot at that segment. Pretty nice bikes for the money. And to show their commitment, the bikes come with 3 year unlimited mileage warranty AND free 3 year road service. That is unheard of for bikes.
I test rode one when I was getting my Scout serviced. Interesting bike (my first bike was a BSA Lightning). I do have a soft sport for vertical twins. There were some tweaks I would do if I got one, but for the money there is a lot of potential. Personally, I would like to see them bumped up to 750cc or 800cc.
