Didn’t hear his statement but I heard about it. Not sure where he and his lawyers are trying to go with this but it isn’t going to work. Several things have to take place before a firearm like he had can be discharged, and they have to be done by the person holding the firearm.

What’s the trigger pull weight on that particular firearm, I wonder...

Folks would not buy guns that randomly fired while in your holster or your pocket

I thought B.Husseins ego was humongous but this guy takes the cake. The smoke hasn’t even cleared and already he is doing a public relations interview?? I like the question Stephanopoulos asks him “Is this the worst thing that ever happened to you?” What? To HIM?? What about the woman he killed? And then he tries to not take responsibility? The gun shot itself?? The gun pointed itself at her and shot itself? Is this guy for real?

He can claim it all he wants but it was drawn, in his hand, hammer pulled back manually by his thumb, pointed at a person and the trigger tripped by his finger.

The fact it was an old single action Colt and not a double action modern weapon makes his statement even that much more asinine.

This is nothing but a CYA move his lawyers have told him to say simply because there might be a weak minded jurist who is looking for an excuse, any excuse, to pardon him. After all he hates Trump so that should be an excuse to pardon him for some, right?

There is one way that a Colt SAA can go off without the hammer being cocked or the trigger being pulled.

The design if the SAA is such that an uncocked hammer rests directly on the firing pin which is in contact with a primer in the chamber.

If you drop the pistol such that the back of the hammer hits the ground, or give the back of the hammer a sharp blow, it will go off.

This is why it was standard practice to carry only five rounds in a SAA, and have the hammer down on an empty chamber.

Unless Baldwin dropped the pistol, or happened to give a very sharp rap to the back of an uncocked hammer, the gun did not go off by itself.

perhaps he pulled the hammer back and it slipped.

i think he was messing around and pulled the trigger.

then his mind concocts this magic deadly gun.

Clintonesque word parsing. He “squeezed” the trigger.

He would have had to first pull the hammer back before the gun could “just go off”.

His lie is obvious.

"No, no, no, no, I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger. Never."

Can he really be that stupid? The only reason for pointing a gun at someone is to pull the trigger.

The interviews Alec has been giving about the shooting are what prosecutors call “evidence.”

Single action revolvers have to be cocked first and then the trigger pulled.

it was his other personality, Bad Alec, who pulled the trigger, not Good Alec, who was crying during the interview.

The sheriff has it right. Whatever needed to be done with that gun to cause it to fire, Baldwin did that. Whether that was a deliberate trigger pull, cocking and then dropping the hammer, whatever.... the gun was in his hand, under his control, and HE pointed it at Ms. Hutchins and fired it. No one else.

Even if the gun is actually faulty and fired itself without any manipulation whatsoever, he still pointed a gun at another human being. And in doing so, caused her death.

Seems to me that the absolute lightest charge possible, based on Baldwin's own statements, should be involuntary manslaughter. And depending on what evidence comes out, a more serious charge might well be more appropriate.

Pietta makes two different types of copies of the Colt 1873. One is like the original and has a half cock to catch a slipped hammer.
The only way it will fire without the trigger pulled is if it has been converted to a “slip hammer”(no trigger) or has the trigger tied back.

And one that has a transfer bar in which it will only fire if the trigger has been pulled.

"Guns don't just go off"

They don't point themselves directly at movie crew members either.

This is similar to SUVs, which do not drive themselves into Christmas parade crowds.
