The sinister nature of electric cars
American Thinker ^ | 2 Dec, 2021 | Jerold Levoritz

Posted on 12/02/2021 4:14:47 AM PST by MtnClimber

The Democrats are doing everything they can to get Americans into electric cars. However, those cars come with the risk of a serious loss of power—not just for the car but for those who buy those cars.

We have to begin with asking why is the governing pushing electric vehicles? And it’s not just cars, it’s also trucks. Why are they ignoring hybrid vehicles? If something happens to the electric guts of a properly designed hybrid car, the vehicle can limp along with its smaller gas engine until it reaches safety. What happens to a fully electric vehicle if its electrical system fails? Nothing, of course! You’re stuck. All you have is a hunk of metal and plastic. And if you run out of electricity while driving, you can’t just get a gallon gas can to fill the tank until you get to the nearest service station. Again, you’re stuck.

The next question is, “Are electric cars cheaper than gas cars?” No, they cannot be cheaper, and that’s even if you run them on renewables. Take solar energy, for example. Even if sunlight is free, the laws of thermodynamics still control.

Every time energy changes form, there is a loss factor. Sunlight impinging on solar cells only changes 14-47% of the energy to electricity. The forty-seven percent figure is state-of-the-art, so it is not available for everyday use.

Electricity is then stored in chemical-based car batteries (with a loss). And then chemical energy is reconverted back to electricity (with a loss) and finally to mechanical energy where the tire rubber meets the road (with a loss). At a guess, not more than 5% of the original sun power turns the wheels of an EV car. That’s awful. What this means is that it is more efficient to run a gas-powered...

I can tell you that number is way off for the Leaf on my Level 2 charger. Half that. I have now had mine for 6 years and 65K miles. I can’t believe how fast time goes. I have really enjoyed it...especially when gas has spiked or there were pipeline issues that caused shortages of gas...but it is is mainly a toy. The limited amount of maintenance needed is absolutely astonishing.

I have two other ICE cars and wouldn’t get rid of them for any reason.

We had a $200/hr excavator sit for 2 weeks while mechanics and technicians scratched their head. Even the company tech came from out of state to finally figure it out

When your a small company, and the big machine on the job is sitting, it grinds a project to a halt

And miss good working weather, while we scratch to keep the guys busy

That particular breakdown cost us bigly

My Ford C-Max cannot run on the gas 2 banger. It requires a workable battery to operate. Ford quit production stating bad gas mileage.

Absolutely, it is the best combination ever invented to date, and we have known about this for years. But big oil never wanted the auto industry to trend that direction. Too efficient, not enough oil sold.

But the math is self explanatory... A medium output Locomotive uses a 2,000 HP diesel to drive electric motors which produce 25,000 ft-lb of torque. So downsizing, a 200 Hp diesel would produce 2,500 ft-lb of torque. The average 6 cylinder passenger car only requires 300 Ft-lbs of torque. So a 25 Hp diesel/electric would produce more than enough torque to provide the same performance using half the fuel with half the emission output.

It is a win win we should have implemented years and years ago. But money and greed ruled it out.

Those times are for low Amp charging. Commercial, high Amp charging puts in over mile per minute, but the question still exists, where do the Amps come from?

Hybrids are the Future. Who wouldn’t want a Pickup will 1,000 lbft of torque that gets 30 mpg and 600 mile range when not towing.

The push for all electric will just make hybrids look better and better.

Nor the pollution generated by mining and processing the minerals going into the manufacture of EVs. Not to mention the reliance on African slave labor to mine these minerals, with children as a major component of it. Criminal gangs operate many of these mines providing "security," largely paid for by the Chinese government.
This is the dark side of the green agenda ignored by politicians, press, and advocates of "renewables."

But the original sun power is free. So you waste 95% of something that is free (and clean).

Not to mention that the sun is the energy source behind fossil fuels. How much of the sun's power does the author think gets preserved through the growth of he earth's biota, decomposition and conversion to petroleum, methane or coal?

That is exactly right. Too many systems on top of too many other systems create an opportunity for more things to break. Downtime is huge! It is no good to have a car that is in the shop more than it is on the road.

“But I like my heated steering wheel!” lol

Now they are making systems that are similar to not letting the car run at all just because the heated steering wheel doesn’t work... And we keep buying this stupid crap.

I’m guessing that these times are for fairly new batteries. Wonder how long they would take to charge when the batteries are in mid service life to near the end.

$600 for just a ten minute sensor change.

Yep, I have a 2019 Jeep Compass with only 17,800 miles and yesterday the Stop/Start warning light went on. I never used that function anyway.

Got an appointment with the dealer this afternoon, fortunately it's still under warranty......Like you said, probably some stupid sensor.

But you can’t get a ride to a charging station and bring back a can of electricity.

I have a Ford Mach E. Love it, it’s a great COMMUTER CAR. To save battery life I charge it to 85% and don’t go below 20% charge, which gives me over 100 miles per day range. More than enough for me. Level 2 charging at home.

That said, it’s not doing squat for the environment, same as my ICE cars. But my gas vehicles will live longer thanks to the EV doing the short commutes that are hardest on the ICE vehicles.

Glorified golf cart? Heck yeah it is. But it does that very, very well.

“But you can’t get a ride to a charging station and bring back a can of electricity.”

Yep, But there will be a whole new service born. Mobil charging trucks that charge by the hour using generators which run on diesel or gas. These idiots just will not see the reality that they are just moving the problem from one place to another.

Total hypocrisy with malicious intent. Proves it is all about the control/money and not the environment.
