He may be telling the truth, sort of. If his finger was on the trigger as he cocked the hammer, the single-action revolver may well have gone off without his ‘pulling the trigger’. That said, the shooting was still his fault, not the gun’s.

Not sure the single-action weapon was handed to Baldwin by the armorer, but the defense team he can afford will attempt to find a way to introduce evidence (raising doubt) that the weapon was handed to him already cocked.
