A jury has awarded $10 million to a South Carolina woman who sued Walmart after she needed multiple surgeries because of an infection that resulted from stepping on a rusty nail inside one of the company’s stores in Florence, her lawyers said.
“The weakness of Walmart’s case, among other things, was their failure to produce a video that they claim showed their conforming behavior to a company policy calling for employees to perform regular safety sweeps,” the news release said. “No such evidence was presented for the duration of the five-day-long trial.”
So. The blatantly obvious question and answer is missing from all this...
Juries are spanking Walmart these days! What gives?

It’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up.
This award will be rejected on appeal. South Carolina limits punitive damage awards to the greater of three times the actual damages or $500,000
I stepped on a rusty nail a few months ago. It was sore for a long time and caused me to limp around for a couple of months.
Do you think I collect a few bucks from my homeowner’s policy if I sued myself for negligence?
So, was she going barefoot in the Walmart? If so, what happened to “shirt and shoes required”? The rusty nail pierced through her shoe (or house slipper) and entered her foot? Enquiring minds want to know.
Wonder if the lawyer will use this verdict in his TV ads- “Don’t scream call Akim dial all 2s now I got a woman $10,000,000 for stepping on a nail at Walmart.”
So this person never had a tetanus shot or got one after stepping on the nail, how dumb.
This article is sorely lacking in details.
Was she barefoot?
If there is no video.....how do they know it was Walmart
It could have been anywhere?
Was she barefoot.......
Exactly. How does one manage to get a rusty nail through a shod foot in a Walmart?

I had a Rusty Nail at a bar once. And I never sued anybody.
Well, I have seen more and more people wearing house slippers in grocery stores. It started out with women, now seeing a few men stuffing along in them as well. It appears to have become something of a “thing” among some lower-income folks.
I don’t know how long this has been going on, as I used to only see upper-middle-class shoppers in my usual grocery stores, but the poor folks started streaming in a couple of years ago.
I stepped on a rusty nail in a Kroger parking lot. It penetrated the sole of my shoe. Never occurred to me to sue Kroger.
I did click on it, but could not find that info. Was she wearing shoes or not?
I did see a link to this story, though:
“Nail gun sold at Walmart recalled over ‘involuntary discharge’”
Imagine how much fun Freepers could have with that one!
I stepped on a nail that went through a flip-flop while playing hide & seek when I was a kid.
It wasn’t rusty and I didn’t get any money. Just a trip to the nearby military hospital for a look and a tetanus shot.
You need to be in marketing :):):P
