CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina sees the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution as a chance to remind people that the state played a huge part in winning the nation’s independence, even if it did try later to tear the United States apart in the Civil War.
The state has opened a new Revolutionary War center, and released an app for mobile devices that explores some 200 sites of battles and other key events, including remote swamps where patriots and loyalists skirmished in the War of Independence....
...Congress commissioned the America250 Foundation five years ago to throw the “biggest, most inclusive commemoration in our nation’s history” on July 4, 2026, 250 years after the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia....
...There are thousands of stories to tell, and Good said the center’s goal is to open the door to as many of them as possible, by combining battlefield heroics with stories of common men and women who had to decide whether to join the revolution...

The immigrant Scots of South Carolina were just a generation foreward from the British genocide of the Highland Clearances from 1745 to 1765. They relished a chance to get at the British Red Coats , and slaughtered them where ever they lay.

250 years...I just never did the math to realize how close we are to that milestone.
Will it actually mean something to us anymore or will it be a govcorp spectacle full of woke lies and blather?

Charleston was the Silicone Valley of the colonies. Wild money, big life styles and excessive showmanship.

Some of mine fought with Francis “Swamp Fox” Marion. My grandmother named my father Francis out of respect for him. I live in the part of SC the Swamp Fox roamed. To this day no one knows where his famous lair / hideout was. There has always been speculation it was somewhere along the Great Pee Dee river between Marion and Marlboro counties. The fact it remains hidden is a testament to his men's ability to keep a secret and leave no trace behind- true stealth warriors.

I have researched that location and if you look at it on Good=gle Maps, there is no way to trace where the location was in the swamp. No markers, no sign posts ar land marks,it is fundamentally obscure.
I find Francis Marion fascinating. Some say his ancestray was from Ireland. But it may be French. He is one of the genuine heros of America who is not lauded enough IMHO.

Unfortunately, I don't think America has that long. More than likely we will be celebrating year 2 or 3 of The Great Reset. But it doesn't matter that much to me. Should it come to that, I will be long gone by then.

Sounds cool!
My ancestor Matt Talbot went broke fortifying Fort Watauga for the King’s Mountain battle. His sons did the actual fighting.
Not sure what my Scot ancestors did, but I am sure they were anti-British.

See #10.
I have traced my Scots to 1737 Kentucky.(hanging or indentured servitude in the colonies_). I imagine they fought with glee.

The role of the dsplaced Scots is much underreported. Not only that, the left makes a consistant policy of running away from the Highland Pipes. And they will keep running unless they want a taste of lead.

When I started listening to “The American Revolution Podcast” I was surprised to see the number of battles and other activity related to the war that took place in the South. Like most Americans, I suppose, I always had the impression that the War for Independence was very much North centered, primarily Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New York. That’s basically how it’s taught in public schools.

Not sure what my Scot ancestors did, but I am sure they were anti-British. Am I the only Freeper who had Tory ancestors? One of mine, a great-great-great uncle was killed in a South Carolina battle. Fortunately, his brother--my great-great-great grandfather survived. Later, my great grandfather was in the Cavalry, Texas CSA. Obviously, he survived also.
My paternal ancestors did tend to pick the losing side.;>)

After the Civil War the South’s contribution to the RevWar was erased from most history books by design.
