- Wild hogs are running rampant in Corona and residents say it's becoming a growing problem that's posing a threat to the safety of families and pets all across the area.

"The pigs have been coming," said Corona resident Judy Gardner. "They came here to my house on Halloween night, and then they came back on Veterans Day, and probably going to be here for Thanksgiving.

Resident Robert Esquizel told Eyewitness News a pack of 15 pigs damaged his street.

Department of Fish and Wildlife discuss possible options to deal with the feral pig population, which included allowing homeowners and others the ability to hunt them.

Correct. Wild Hogs multiply quickly, and are killers.

LOL! I hadn’t heard of that breed before. Very good looking pups. I have two pups, and they smell the moles - but just dig up the yard more while following their trails..

Many solutions..round em up...send to zoos, farms, wildlife preserves, let private citizens on large properties adopt and control em. Leave a few spayed and even less fertile ones in the wild. Round 2 in a few years...

We would occasionally see some type of wild pigs in RVN.

One night a herd ran into our NDP tripping the flares.

Emptying an M-16 magazine into them at 30M + did not drop them on the spot!

They will make the yard look worse for a while until you get the trails filled in but for some reason more moles don't want to come in the yard. This is my oldest girl Abby. She's 4 1/2. Her sister just turned four and I keep their brother during the day while my daughter works. Nothing gets out of their yard alive.

Does their damage exceed $950 per instance?

I’m attempting to not troll and be nice in my response.

Be that as it may, major portions of the US are overrun with wild hogs.

Today, they number an estimated nearly seven million and have established themselves in 35 states (and have been spotted in 48!). According to the USDA, they cause $2 billion in damage every year. “This situation has been described as the greatest emerging wildlife challenge that the United States faces in the 21st century,” says John “Jack” Mayer, a biologist Savannah River National Laboratory who’s been studying wild pigs for over 40 years. “This is something we did to ourselves.”

California has been dealing with wild pigs for centuries and nothing has worked. For once California came up with a good idea. You can hunt wild pigs year round with no limit as long as you have a valid hunting license and follow safe hunting practices.

We had feral hogs. Put up a trap with corn. Caught one and killed it. The other pigs all left.

Thanks! We love them. They are house dogs but have a large fenced yard. I am content to fill in holes because if it isn’t moles it’s grubs. They LOVE grubs. Most moles now don’t even make it a foot under the fence before they are dug up. They don’t eat them but they do bring the dead moles and leave them on the deck like “look what I did Mom”. I drop dog poop that I pick up in any holes close to the fence. :-)

Mountain Feists are generally trained for squirrel hunting but with as much Jack Russell and Rat Terrier as they have in their genes it’s pretty much anything they dig up or chase down ends up dead. They have the prey drive of a JRT without the attitude.

You might “adopt” one long enough to feed the wild taste out. My grandfather trapped feral hogs during the Great Depression. He made bacon and used that bacon to pay a starving carpenter to build him a house.

Feeding the looters to feral hogs sounds like a good idea.

Meanwhile, Real Spirits in Blanco, TX, the distilling arm of Real Ale Brewery, has found another use for feral hogs - make mezcal out of them.
