Also one of my personal favorites, “One, Two, Three”, with James Cagney.
In the category of clean humor - I vote for “Sons Of The Desert” with Laurel and Hardy.
While maybe not wall to wall laughs and gags like Airplane, I have to say my favorite film comedies are Trading Places and The Producers - “Nobody ever said a bad word about Winston Churchill, did they? No! "Win with Winnie!" Churchill! With his cigars. With his brandy. And his rotten painting, rotten! Hitler, there was a painter. He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon! Two coats!“
“Used Cars” and “Hollywood Knights”
I kinda found Mel Brooke’s HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART 1 very funny and eminently quotable.
I wonder why he never made Part 2...
Baseketball.
“Wake up bitch, you’re my new best friend”
“Really? Can we go to the zoo?”
No Blazing Saddles no list.
You can tell this was written by someone who has never really watched any good comedy movies. Bob Hope (several to chose from), Rodney Dangerfield (Back to School), The Marx Brothers, just to name a few,
How many of them could be made today?
1. The Party
“A Shot In The Dark” 1964
Saw it while in the Navy. Laughed so hard I actually slid off my seat in the theater in Great Lakes.
And of course, as mentioned, It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world
My List and not in order
Animal House
The Big Lebowski
Tropic Thunder
The Pink Panther
Kingpin
The Hangover
Christmas Vacation
American Pie
Austin Powers
Wedding Crashers
Bridesmaids sucked badly.
I am surprised that “Animal House” was not on the list. I remember watching it in the theater in 1978 and it seemed like the entire audience was laughing continuously.
And speaking of Monty Python, when I first saw “The Meaning of Life”, I laughed for almost a half hour at the Restaurant skit (Mr. Creosote). It was maybe the longest, deepest sustained laughter of my entire life. Luckily, I saw it on video in my own home and was not in their theater (as I probably would have been ejected).
The “Biggus D!cku$” skit in “Life of Brian” may have been a distant second. To this day, I cannot watch that scene without cracking up.
Airplane! is #1? Surely you can’t be serious.
“The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning, while the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure.” -King Solomon
“Nothing is more futile than schemed merriment.” -Samuel Johnson
“They’re from New Jersey. They’ve seen butts before.” -Kevin Costner, Fandango
I haven't seen good comedies in new films: they tend to be PC with a lot of screaming and frantic movements.
Dr Strangelove
Pink Panther Strikes Again
Shot in the Dark
