I’ve been an active member of my state’s State Guard since 2016. We operate as the smaller, and non-federal, hand of state duty. We are not war-fighters, but volunteers and professionals (engineers, chaplains, medical, attorneys, and commo) who augment the efforts of state civilian authorities. We are mostly deployed for emergency management roles.
Removing the National Guard designation from OK’s forces is a big deal, if only funding is considered. The Feds will also forfeit a huge asset in troop numbers and skills that factor into the war-fighting roles.
The National Guard has never been the militia they are a fully sponsored Federal level military agency with full access to class three military grade weapons, tanks, mortars, mines, fighter jets and all manor of explosives that would land any militia members in the Federal prison for the rest of their lives. Once OK losses Federal government backing they also lose access to all those kinds of weapons and must return them to the real owners the Federal government. The state militia is a bunch of middle age overweight bubbas with AR15s who are not allowed to even posses belt fed machine guns let alone carry them openly.
Finei
The current size of all the states' national guards is approximately 443,000, roughly one-third of the size of the U.S. Armed Forces active duty component - by comparison, roughly the size of the armed forces of Malaysia or Algeria. The latter of these has a budget of just under $10 billion. Could the combined 50 states come up with that budget? Yes, actually. Admittedly this is an apples-to-oranges comparison but they're both round fruit and that's about the granularity desired of a seat-of-the-pants estimate.
The fact that in ten short months Josef Stolen and his band of pirates has us thinking in these terms is staggering. But outlandish as it may seem we'd better be thinking.
Secession?
I think there are several contiguous states in the southeast / midwest that should consider banding together in this cause.
Soldiers and Airmen are paid using these federal funds.
While I back the move, this is going to be interesting.
No more calling up Oklahoma to protect Washington or man the southern border. No more deployment of their troops either.
Also no Oklahoma NG personnel will be able to attend military schools and all air wings and helo flights likely will be grounded.
What does history teach us?
Not quite the same but with the demise of the soviet union each satellite claimed what was in their borders.
We woke up one morning and learned the soviet union was gone. it can happen that fast here too.
I can - and have - bought 50 cal API rounds delivered right to my door.
Gadsden Flag Moment:
Come and Take It!
God luck with that!
Can someone find balls for my governor. Granted it’s Grandma Ivey but still. My governor sucks.
We, the tax payers, are more than willing to fund a opposing force of state militia. Our states mostly require it but something happened about 170 years ago that made fedgov supreme.
In Oklahoma you can, SGAmmo in Stillwater!
Say what you want... The Democrats actually FIGHT.
Hmmm, would this trip a reconsideration of that class 3 equipment restriction vis a vis the 2nd Amendment? How can they constitutionally restrict the OK Militia?
Let 3 or 4 more States do this. I suggest Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama. Toss in Idaho and watch the Pentagon soil their Depends.

“The rub is how do they recover the equipment which is held in multiple locations.”
Would Biden send the 101st into Oklahoma to retrieve all that stuff?
L
LOL - OK should rename its NG the state Taliban and not only keep the equipment but demand Biden pay them off like the other Taliban.
55-48
That’s where I got it - in addition to a multitude of other stuff.
