Weekly Garden Thread - November 13-19, 2021
November 13, 2021 | Diana in Wisconsin/Greeneyes

Posted on 11/13/2021 6:31:44 AM PST by Diana in Wisconsin

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

Those look amazing! I might do that for Thanksgiving versus the other ‘squash’ I had planned. Very impressive. Thanks!.

I always make Hasselback Potatoes when we have people over for dinner. They always look impressive on the plate. :)

Looks delicious. What could be better than a hassle back sweet potato with bacon. Answer - with maple syrup.

Such a fantastic recipe cries out for a spectacular chocolate dessert.

Glazed German chocolate cake rounds filled w/ decadent chocolate mousse.

In for a couple of nice days, then some medium-nice days, then back to the deep freeze. We never did get the 3" of snow predicted, which will help shorten Winter a bit. Still plugging away on my list of 'general duties' but it's time for the cured squashes to come in and go down to the basement. I'd better get working on my pie pumpkins. I'm going to give a few to the mule and steer as a special treat.

The squash treat reminds me of the year that Beau was grazing a steer on the front lawn so he didin't have to mow it after a 14 hour workday. This was before *I* showed up and returned this place to SOME semblance of order! ;) He fed the steer a few raw Spaghetti Squash and the next Spring there were Spaghetti Squashes growing in patches all over the house yard! *Rolleyes* Boys!

Chocolate dessert, hassleback potatoes, after a venison main course dinner, and stuff that happens in the dark?

Imagining .... that I have to go out and work in the yard now!

(That chocolate recipe, Liz, doesn’t look like it came in a plastic cup from Wal-Mart!)

Except for the soy sauce marinade bit, that is pretty much exactly how I season venison that’s going to be pan-fried. I can say with certainty that it would be delicious.

The advice in the recipe to be careful not to overcook is spot on. I will do my best to follow that when I cook the tenderloins for supper tonight.

I stopped by the body shop this morning after I got done checking on Pops at the hospital. I won’t be surprised if they total the wife’s car. Every bit of door/fender skin on the passenger side is ruined, and the rocker panel is crushed under the rear door.

Well, I hope insurance pays enough for new car, or most of one.

Preliminary estimate is ~75% of trade-in value. Looks like they’re going to fix it.
