The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday. 47 times.
They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, blue hairs, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are "Baby Boomers" getting ready to retire, others are from the Greatest Generation already retired. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God and have grown old together.
In school we studied English, history, math, and science, which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. We still use two spaces after a period when typing. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, $.25 gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes.
We are probably considered old fashioned and outdated by many But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Vietnam. We can quote “The Pledge of Allegiance”, and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride, and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn't fight for the Socialist States of America; we fought for the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag.
We know the words to the “Star Spangled Banner,” “America,” and “America the Beautiful” by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you should have read in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.
Yes, we are older and slower these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We love this country, fought and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that’s an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.
It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democrat Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies” from your college professors. You youngsters need to taste socialism and see evil face to face to understand you don't like it after all. You make a lot of noise, most are all too interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be involved in such mundane things such as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 are now having buyer's remorse With all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank their 'Kool-Aid.’
Well, don't worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and in 2016 we took back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like, but we get where we're going, and in 2022 we're driving to the polls again by the millions.
So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor your country, and thank God for the old geezers of the "Gray-Haired Brigade."
Footnote: This is spot on. I am another Gray-Haired Geezer signing on. I will circulate this to other Gray-Haired Geezers all over this still great country. Can you feel the ground shaking? It's not an earthquake, it’s a STAMPEDE. And, you and I are members.
Please Don't Delete. Just Read and Pass it on!!
In God we STILL trust!

I use “he” and “his” as the indefinite pronoun—as in “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs”—which has fallen out of fashion.
_____________
We all did.
The inability to use he and his as an indefinite pronoun is like all the other changes to the language. A growing inability to manage cognitive flexibility. Cognitive Rigidity. Usually a sign of low IQ and or enormous anxiety, IMHO.

“The younger generations have massacred grammar, usage, and syntax. And definitely two spaces after a period!”
Agreed that grammar, usage, and syntax are now more of minefield with traps set by the “woke” to snare those of us educated in more genteel applications of those protocols.
As to the spaces after a period - I was right there with you until graduate school in the early 2000s when papers were required to adhere to the APA Stylebook which specified the single space after a period. I had to really think about keeping my thumb from double-tapping that SPACE bar but I eventually retrained my typing skills.
I am 58. Born in 1963(for those too old to do math in your head)
The last of the baby boomers.
I recall a lot of the things mentioned. For example, home delivery of milk. I also am debt free for the first time since 1988. In 1988 I bought my first brand new vehicle. $10800 for a Toyota truck.
I suspect very few people know more than the first verse of “America the Beautiful” unless they are Yankee’s baseball fans where it gets sung at every home game.
Point well taken... That generation born right after WW2 (That would be me, sigh) seems to have failed to do their part to defend the basic principles that our nation was founded upon...
“Our time is here to once again to answer the call and I ain’t talking ballot box.”
Your’re not talking ballot box? I call bullshit. Prove me wrong—what exactly are you talking about then, troll?
This will quickly become obvious when you read Facebook posts and memes.
I visited Southie in 2004. This seemed to me to be the "real" Boston, where everyone spoke with a Boston accent and there were no tourists. I went into the local public library, and judging from some of the materials and resources I saw, there seems to have been an influx of immigrants from Eastern Europe into the community.
I am in the group! I’ve had COVID, I’ve had shingles, I’ve had a surgery or two, and I’m still going strong!
I’m glad you brought up the hippies. I am 66. I was in 7th grade in 1967. I still remember the long line of cars in the street of citizens who went to honor a fallen soldier at the local funeral home. That touched my 12 year old heart and left an impression. I remember my aunt and her sister putting together care packages for their brother in vietnam. Contrast that with the news of hippies hurling insults and spitting on returning soldiers. I have hated hippies ever since. They are the part of the boomers who, unfortunately, went on to become professors at our colleges.
I think I’m the oldest one here— but I’m not telling.
Ain't taking me out without one hell of a fight, and I have one good one left in me. Even after 4 major lower back surgeries, knees done, hip, eyes, elbow surgery, and more titanium plates and screws in me than I care to recount.
I'm almost bionic at this point. Bring it on you youngin's. You'll get more than you asked for from me (and yes, I'm getting buried with all my wealth and I ain't paying no damn' taxes on it either!)

Good thing I never see Facebook.
82 and a millionaire, but can only buy what 100K bought in 1960. Its meaningless. If it keeps going like it is, in 10 yrs it will only buy what 10K did back then.
The wife and I are in this group, as septuagenerians. She’s had two open heart surgeries and two mastectomies; right now she’s recovering from left knee replacement and waiting to do right. After those she’ll be mobile again, God willing. I had Covid last year - eleven days in hospital - but have pretty much recovered. Thank God we’re both still here for the kids and grandkids.
After Virginia I’m less pessimistic than I was, but to fix this country we’ve got a lot of work to do.
We are in this mess because the boomers are the most selfish, useless, and venal generation that ever was.
Sorry, not sorry - Gen X
This olde geezer got a home made sigh on the back of my car “Lets go Brandon”. 90% tell me I like your sign:-)
And is this just another way the ‘rulers’ identify the targets of future ‘cleansing’?
