THE GREAT REBELLION: RETIREMENT OF LIEUT-GEN. SCOTT; Gen. McClellan in Command of the Army; IMPORTANT PROCLAMATION BY GEN. DIX (11/2/1861)

WASHINGTON, Friday, Nov. 1.

The country will not be surprised to learn that Gen. SCOTT has resigned, and that Gen. MCCLELLAN is now in absolute command of the army.

Gen. SCOTT leaves Washington for New-York to-morrow morning, on a special train, via Harrisburgh. He will be accompanied by Gen. CAMERON.

Public opinion here is about equally divided as to the probability of an advance of the grand army. On the one side it is alleged that the troops are being prepared for Winter quarters, and that the military leaders are not prepared for battle. Others allege that there is a political necessity for a fight; that Gen. MCCLELLAN has full discretionary power, and although a little delayed by the Ball's Bluff disaster, will give us occasion for rejoicing soon.

A letter, received to-day, from Darnestown Md., says that the rebels now have their pickets on Harrison's Island, and that reliable intelligence from Leesburgh gives information that, on Tuesday succeeding the fight at Ball's Bluff, the rebels withdrew their forces from Leesburgh, on our troops being thrown over at Edwards' Ferry, leaving only a few battalions to keep up appearances and watch our movements. They subsequently took away all their supplies, and were, at the latest accounts, resting on Goose Creek seven miles south of Leesburgh.

A new battery of rifled guns, three in number, has been discovered about a mile and half below any that have been heretofore fired. It is situated a little below a new brick house, not far from the wharf at Evansport.

A few days ago the rebels sent a small boat from Quantico Creek over towards Budd's Ferry, bearing a flag of truce. When she had approached to within two or three hundred yards of the Maryland shore a barrel, with something attached to it,

"Editorial: The Publication of Gen. Thomas’ Report – 6-7"

Most interesting to learn that the NY Times' reports of Union "victory" after the Battle of Bull Run were not, in fact, from the Times' reporters, who knew better, but rather were insisted on by Federal government censors at the telegraph office in Washington!

So, it turns out that those on these threads who've accused the Times of publishing Union propaganda were not only correct, but the Times' editors themselves may have known the facts were otherwise but felt obliged to report as directed.

I suppose we will learn in due time if the Times becomes less eager to pass along government propaganda as if it were real news.

Thankfully, we never have that problem these days, do we?

;-)

Hi.

Of course you’re correct, but the corrupt corporate media, big Tech and academia cabal are now subsidiaries of the DNC and the Deep state.

Moves the culture’s information from propaganda to indoctrination.

We live in interesting times.

“Gen. SCOTT has resigned, and that Gen. MCCLELLAN is now in absolute command of the army.”

And the Confederates rejoiced...

Excellent trainer, but one of the worst Corps or Army level commanders in US history.
