70 million of that 240 million live in squalor in congested shanty towns and don’t have clean water, an indoor toilet (and no toilet paper in any case), nor regular health care. So if it’s working there, it’ll work anywhere.

It was originally a parasite treatment of course but thee antiviral properties were learned later, I knew that but not the mechanism of action.

From what I read, they distributed it to literally every village, but only gave it out when someone got sick. But once that did happen, they would give it to all family members and close contacts. I suspect they also gave it to healthcare workers.

At that point, the virus was out of luck there.
