“. From what I can gather PTSD was only recently recognized as a disability that made a veteran eligible to receive a service dog.”

VA.gov

Becoming dependent on a dog can get in the way of the recovery process for PTSD.

VA does not provide service dogs for physical or mental health conditions, including PTSD.

You referred to some unknown person who got killed while begging on the freeway which was obviously meant as a justification for hauling this veteran to jail.

That makes just as much sense as my post, which was my point exactly.

Apparently you are not aware of the “quality” of your remarks.

“The law was recently changed to allow dogs for PTSD.”

It is a pilot program and has not started yet.

THERE ARE NO MILITARY REGULATIONS! VA DOES NOT SUPPLY SERVICE DOGS FOR PSTD.

Cops broke statutory law in separating this man from his VA prescribed service dog, the dog died, and that was also on their watch for having done the wrong thing. It seems likely that bias is provable thing too, but even if it isn’t, they broke the law, the ADA has been around for a long time, lots and lots of decisions are associated with it.

“If the dog was provided by the VA prior to the law change it simply means Rohr had a disability that allowed for the procurement of a service dog.”

He stated it was for his PTSD. Are you making up another non-existent disability?

“ Rohrer deployed to Kuwait and Iraq from October 2004 to November 2005 with the Kentucky Army National Guard. He suffers from service-connected post-traumatic stress disorder, and his 2-year-old Belgian Malinois Sunshine was his Veterans Affairs-prescribed treatment, according to an official letter from the VA provided to Military Times by Rohrer.”

New law provides for service dogs for veterans with PTSD

President Joe Biden on Aug. 25 signed into law the Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers for Veterans Therapy Act (HR 1448/S 613) that requires the secretary of veterans affairs to establish a five-year program to provide service dogs to veterans with PTSD. The AVMA supported the legislation.

“We know service dogs are a proven life-changing and life-saving form of therapy for our veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress,” said U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey in a statement.

“With this new law, we are addressing the high-cost barrier that prevents many from accessing these incredible dogs,” added Sherrill, a Navy veteran.

If memory serves, the conventional wisdom on trolls is to not feed them. You want to argue with the VA you are welcome to do so.

That could not have happened. For as long as I have been on Free Republic.com, the theme I have read being posted the most is, “The Police are on our side”.

My wife and I were thinking of moving to Gastonia. I think maybe that idea looks less likely in light of this article.

No, go read what I posted. They have been studying this since 2017. Sunshine and the homeless vet just might have been part of the study, which is leading to the pilot program.

Stop yelling at everyone too.

Frankly, even if it was an ESA, what these officers did was wrong. And we should be rioting in the streets over this, instead of fighting over whether the dog was a ESA or SD
