“. From what I can gather PTSD was only recently recognized as a disability that made a veteran eligible to receive a service dog.”
VA.gov
Becoming dependent on a dog can get in the way of the recovery process for PTSD.
VA does not provide service dogs for physical or mental health conditions, including PTSD.
you would be incorrect
The Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers Act of 2021 (PAWS) bill, S. 951, sets up a grant program for service dog organizations that provide trained dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD or TBI. This bill and its companion bill, H.R. 1022, establish a three-year pilot program that’s administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
You are right about the VA. I typed/read in haste. The organization providing service dogs must be approved by the VA.
