'You Are The Problem': AT&T Tells White Staff They Are Racist, Asks Them To Confess Their 'White Privilege'

White employees of AT&T have been told to read an article saying that they are racist, are told to confess to their 'white privilege' and acknowledge 'systemic racism,' and must engage with set texts or else they will be penalized in their performance reviews. 

AT&T, in the aftermath of the George Floyd murder, introduced an internal program called Listen Understand Act.

John Stankey, the CEO of AT&T, wrote to the company's 230,000 employees in an April 2021 email, obtained by journalist Christopher Rufo and published on his website.

Stankey, who took over as CEO in July 2020, urged his workers to make the most of the resources provided by AT&T's anti-racism portal. 

'As individuals, we can make a difference by doing our part to advance racial equity and justice for all,' he wrote. 

'If you are looking for tools to better educate and inform yourself on racial equality, resources are available at Listen. Understand. Act. 

'We also encourage you to actively participate in our recently launched Equality First learning experience, a new initiative to increase awareness and action around our value to Stand for Equality.'

Most employees are not forced to engage with the Listen Understand Act program, but managers at AT&T are now assessed annually on diversity issues - with mandatory participation in programs such as discussion groups, book clubs, mentorship programs, and race reeducation exercises, according to Rufo's source. 

The source told Rufo that employees are asked to sign a loyalty pledge to 'keep pushing for change.'  They are encouraged to sign up to 'intentions' such as 'reading more about systemic racism' and 'challenging others' language that is hateful.'...

This is so insulting, and I can't believe we are going back to open discrimination. It racist to say this, and illeagal for a business to do.

Feel terrible for the employees that have worked their way up, trying to support their families and getting abused like this.

Time to file lawsuits for discrimination.

If the AT&T CEO really believes the B.S. he is demanding his company do, then he should lead by example and step down since he considers himself privilege.

Back when there was such a thing as 'White Privilege', bi-racial celebrities would generally try to pass themselves off as white.

Now every single famous person with any black blood at all passes themselves off as black. Why do you suppose that is?

So...AT&T hires racist white people which makes AT&T a racist company...or, AT&T is dealing with $160B in debt and is slandering their staff to get them to lower their expectations of employee compensation.

It's a simple enough question for such korporations; "If all these white people are racists, why did you hire them?"

Pretty sure problem is deeper than the CEO. I haven’t looked yet, but I’m willing to bet the holders of ATT are the same ones demanding ESG. That’s why we’re seeing this, don’t play ball, then no one will buy corporate bonds so you can’t buy back stock and get a sweet year end bonus. Doubt CEO actually thinks this, he’s just a sellout as most corporates are, and always will be. They have no soul. Guns need to be aimed at the financiers to fix this. And also try, where possible, to do business with private companies, avoid companies with a listed stock symbol.
