Two children were killed and several other people were seriously injured after a drag racer lost control and plowed into spectators at an event in Texas.

This was a modified sedan, so probably more like 600-1000 hp, maybe nitrous. Probably threw an axle or blew a tire.
I have friends with 850-1000hp in street driven cars.
My Sonoma street truck is 641 hp. with a 400 hp. shot of nitrous.
Boy that brings back memories.
My husband raced funny cars for a short while (I hated it) and I recall engine parts flying into the stands.
Good to know that someone else has the same memories that I do! :)
“My Sonoma street truck is 641 hp. with a 400 hp. shot of nitrous.”
GM just came out with a 1100 hp LS engine small block crate engine that runs on 93 octane pump gas.
The hp numbers they are getting out of the LS engines is staggering.
In the small Northern California town where I grew up we had weekly “hardtop” races out at the fairgrounds. I sometimes went with my grandparents. There was a crude metal roof over the stands and the noise was deafening. I attribute my tinnitus to those hardtops.
Are you certain you are on the correct site?
There have been several stories by various sources posted about this tragedy today.
Pretty much EVERY post about this has called for MORE LAWS AND REGULATION of just regular folks doing what they want to do.
How about you and your ilk just leave folks who accept that ACCIDENTS HAPPEN! alone, and live in your little bubble wrap world.
IOW, foad, meddling micro-managing control freak. Kiss my hairy ***
This isn't him though.
Sounds like a big crowd. Daily Mail has a piece on it
No Prep is nothing like sanctioned drag racing. No Prep has been a spit-show from the beginning, and there has been a lot of crashes.
Real drag racing is done in a very safe environment.
Friend of mine called his roll of duct tape “200 mile an hour tape” cause he’d held body parts together at that speed
Last I heard, his daughter now works for the nhra
Terrible. RIP.
Just heartbreaking.
Prayers.... 🙏🏻

Pro and semi-pro drag tracks have to be prepared “sticky” as I’m sure you know. Otherwise the tires spin and send the car out of control.
Yeah, doesn’t surprise me.
I shouldn’t get too deep in. It’s been since I was a kid
that I remember being at a dirt track many many years ago.
I have watched some races on oval tracks, and those cars
are very close to large crowds. It’s real thrill for
people, but it does concern me.
They may have better protections that I realize.
I appreciate the mention.
*** Lousy journalism didn’t show or say what kind if any barriers were used to protect spectators but none can be seen in the photos. ***
The barriers on the sides were water filled plastic. The car that crashed was a mustang.
*** Just heartbreaking. ***
Yes, it is. I have no idea if the little boys who were killed were brothers, related, local as the police haven’t released their identities. There were people from all over the state, and even out of state there.
