Anyone seen the new Dune? Is it Woke or otherwise polluted with leftism? Worth the money to see it in a theater?

But it’s much more than your $8. It’s you generating excitement about this movie, and other movies. How much time do you spend talking about movies with your friends (and ultimately encouraging them to give money to Liberals), and watching/reading movie reviews?
What else could you (and your circle of friends/family) be doing with your time that could advance the Conservative agenda?

I find it hard to imagine anyone who hasn’t read the novel at least once being able to follow a filmed version that faithfully followed the plot line, much less enjoying the movie. Except maybe for the visual effects. Herbert created a complex universe with thousands of years of pre-history, ruled by an imperial family and noble houses, plus several distinct groups all vying for power. The Bene Geserit “witches” or the desert Fremen alone could support their own novels or films.
I liked it. The only thing I could say was anything woke was some character races but that wasn’t a focus of the movie at all. If you liked the book definitely go see it.
Jodorowsky’s Dune, in a best-case scenario, would have been a commercial bomb but a cult smash. A movie everybody but cinephiles would hate but directors would secretly crib from for thirty years.
Who didn’t want too see the Padishah Emporer played by both Salvidore Dali and an animatronic doll? Almost everybody. But that’s not the point...
I agree. My biggest misgiving.
I really enjoyed the SciFi Channel’s adaptation of the first three Dune novels and their choice for the actor to play Paul was a bold one. They picked an actor better suited for the second series (as he plays the blind, wandering prophet, too) but who was also more physically imposing than he is described in the books and the Lynch film.

“Best” for me is subjective. I always forget a worthy title when these questions are asked. Here are five science-films—that take the term seriously—that I really enjoyed, in no particular order:

My son and I watched it last night. 2 thumbs up. Compared to most the crap they put out today it was epic. Much better then the original dune movie and they did keep close to the book.

I liked the 1984 version, too.
I owe that to the advice of a friend of mine who told me there was no way to fit the book into a single movie, an they were going to have to leave out a lot of explanatory material.
He was right. I spent the time watching it enjoying the audiovisual experience.
As for the new one, it’s better. I can see how anyone who hasn’t read the book might still be confused by it.

2001: A Space Odyssey
The sequel, 2010: The Year We Make Contact wasn’t bad not in nearly the same league.
Gravity was fun to watch. But that was a huge CGI movie and not really science fiction.
Star Wars is mostly space-wizards, special effects, and Hollywood movie-logic. (Is there any science-fiction in it?) But I give props to the original Star Wars movie as perhaps the most amazing fantasy ever captured on sound and film. The effects of that one movie are still being felt today. Look past the dated effects and it’s still a magnificent movie.
I wonder if I should pull out my book and read it again before watching. I used to read and reread that book.

I noted in this version they pretty much eliminated the character of the Mentat. Yes, Thufir is in a couple of scenes but it’s never explained who he is or what a Mentat is. The Baron’s Mentat, Pietr DeVires, is eliminated altogether in this movie. He’s not there during the famous “tooth” scene - in this version the dying Duke Leto blows the poison gas onto the Baron.
I didn’t even see Feyd in D21. Where was he?
