I hate that trend of ‘movies — to be continued’.

It is bad enough to watch a 6-12 episode streaming series, cliffhanger, wait wait wait — when is the next season? Some go two to three years before the next season shows up.

I started season 2 of Another Life on Netflix. I completely forgot what season 1 was about, even after watching the recap and trailers.

TV/Streaming are infamous for their cancellations of cliffhanger series.

I vaguely recall Dune. I read the book (first volume) decades ago and remember seeing a movie later. IIRC, the movie was long, dull and difficult to follow — sort of like the book.

"Who still goes to movie theaters?"

I haven't in a long time, but our local normally second run theater which has a lot of local community support is advertising that they have acquired the rights to show Dune 2021 so I wanted opinions as an option.

I thought it was great. They don’t seem to be trying to make it some kind of social justice reboot so it’s got that going for it.

“Is it Woke or otherwise polluted with leftism?”

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If it isn’t, all the other entities who make and distribute this are. Any money made from this goes to support an agenda you should hate, even if the movie itself doesn’t seem to.

Think about what you are doing when you spend money to see this, or any other major studio movie.

I loved it. I’m a huge fan of the book, I get a good laugh out of the first Dune film and I believe this version is a good representation of the novel. Looking forward to the second part.

The movie is mostly faithful to the source material. One character had a race and gender change, but it really doesn’t effect the story.

Visuals are great. The soundtrack is impressive.

It explains the universe of Dune better than I thought it would.

It is best viewed in IMAX.

I give it a B+

Most sci-fi novels don't translated well to movies. A good example is anything Asimov wtote. How do you screw up “Nightfall?”

on the other hahd, some stuff Heinlein wrote will translate well IF it features rayguns, bug eyed monsters and heaving bosoms. Too bad there were no pre-code movies from Heinlein, which would required time travel anyway.

I really hope it is good and people enjoy it but Paul Atreides looks too much like Pajama Boy.

Well, this seems like a good place to ask this.

What is the best Sci-Fi film of all time?

I'd be interested to hear what the FREEPER collective thinks about this one...

Wife & I watched the new movie last night.

Things were changed in ways that added NOTHING to the story: Leit Kynes is not a woman in the book. The absence of the political intrigue in the book left me a bit disappointed.

Of all previous attempts to make a Dune movie this version didn’t have far to go to be better than all previous attempts but I have to say it is the best version, so far.

Hopefully in part 2 there is nothing added that was not in the book!

Haven’t read it in a long time. but I remember enjoying it. I live near the dunes that inspired it. Always good to walk around out there.

I'm starting to think that the Frank Herbert book just wasn't so hot.

I read the book. Overrated and forgettable. Not worth thinking about or getting excited over.

I get the impression people who like the book are disappointed in the movies because the movies highlights how uninteresting the book actually is.

“Who still goes to movie theaters?”

We still do. Reminds us of date nights 40 years ago when we were teens. Takes us back to a great time.

Plus, many movies just need seen on the big screen

If you are a Dune fan, get the miniseries which ran in the US on the Sci-Fi channel.

Far superior to the 1984 film, and not politically correct at all.

Feyd’s homosexuality was central to the plot. Taking that out of Dune 2021 is inexcusable. Leit-Kynes as a black woman obviously can’t be Chani’s father.

And so on.

As an avid 60+ year reader of sci-fi I thought Herbert’s book was dull and plodding the the original “Dune” movie a muddled waste of film. No plans to see the remake.
