Loving the new popcorn eating Jpeg. Thanks.
A couple questions for those who know:
1. What does Spice have to do with enabling space travel?
2. How are the worms able to travel under sand in straight lines?
1. Spice make people believe they have traveled through space bit they haven’t.
2. The sand worms are like big earth worms that can go through dirt but with jaws and sound hearing. Bump bump bump.
Thanks for the link, man. A most excellent viewing.
“I started season 2 of Another Life on Netflix.”
Binged watched both seasons this past week. Other than the woke sexual BS, it was pretty decent though the last episode seemed rushed.
The spice 'melange', taken in huge quantities, mutates humans into freakish weirdos with expanded minds and gives them what they call 'presience', the ability to see the future.
The guild navigators are just such people, and they guide the ships through 'fold space', a method of folding space in order to move from one place to another instantaneously.
Without the navigators, ships would often times plunge into planets, asteroids, etc. The navigators allowed space travel while avoiding those hazards.
The became necessary because computers were outlawed due to the Butlerian Jihad, the war against the machines, who had enslaved the human race.
2. How are the worms able to travel under sand in straight lines?
Shai-Halud (worms) are covered in layers of scales, which they use as a form of propulsion, if I remember correctly. Watch and see how the Fremen use hooks to open up the scales and are able to steer the worms, cause they really hate getting sand under their scales.
Also, I could be wrong. They could just give the appearance of moving in s straight line, while shimmying worm-like in a serpentine motion.

Watched earlier this evening. My wife and I found it fairly compelling.

Thufir Hawat, the mentat was a fat dude!...............
No. He was an old, grizzled dude. And a fighter on par with Gurney Halleck, and almost as good as Duncan Idaho.
A battle Mentat.
Yes, he was old as the spice would allow, and like Baron Harkonnen was a fat old guy but fast as a gazelle....................
Just got back from seeing it, and am absolutely delighted.
If one is a fan of the novel, I definitely recommend it.
Even the black, woman playing Liet Kynes makes it work well and I didn’t think it would.
I’ve seen the movie twice now and have really enjoyed both viewings. It is easier to follow than the 1984 movie but if you enjoy the original novel, you’ll have no trouble following it.
Part of what helps to ease people into and through the movie are the little homages the it makes to the previous film and two TV series. There are also subtle references to other movies, such as Star Wars, Black Hawk Down (mainly in the scenes with the orinthipters), and (IMHO) 300.
I get that some may not like the changes to Liet Kynes and Duncan Idaho, but I had no problem with them.
I think the Lynch movie still holds up surprisingly well in two places by comparison to the new movie: costuming and soundtrack. Otherwise, there is no contest. And the two earlier series shown on the Sci-Fi Channel (Dune and Children of Dune) are still worth watching—if you enjoy the books. It captures three books in ten hours on a tiny fraction of the 2021 movies’ budget.
