Like a giant writhing banana with gills, a bright yellow catfish jumped out of the water and into Martin Gratz’s boat. Gratz, a professional angler fishing on a Dutch lake with his twin brother Oliver, has caught many catfish in his life, but none of them. Gratz first panicked.
“I’ve never seen such a catfish,” Gratz told Live Science in a direct message. “I’m still overwhelmed by it.”

Although strange and beautiful to the human eye, leucist animals usually face disadvantages in the wild. LiveScience previously reported that leucist animals, with bright, sometimes bright bodies, can stick out to predators and be more easily targeted than cousins that are fully colored.
This Hongkin Wells catfish seems to have escaped the early demise — and may live to grow even bigger. After taking a few pictures, Gratz put the fish back in the water hoping that the fish would grow “very large”. Perhaps it will surprise another angler on a future fishing trip.
Sure. And it was THIS BIG!
If he’s so bright, how come he got caught?
Big SOB.
“If he’s so bright, how come he got caught?”
He didn’t.
Does it have red eyes? I’ve seen these types of mutations in birds.
A Dutch treat.
He jumped into the boat!....................
That’s a whole lotta catfish nuggets. I bet a good public aquarium would pay big bucks for it. Too bad he put it back, unless didn’t have a livewell.
Why didn’t a dike catch it?
He put it back so it could grow even bigger! They can get to 100 pounds!...............................
TYPO..............
He put it back so it could grow even bigger! They can get to 300 pounds!...............................
She was indisposed..........................
Yeah, try boating that one with a Zebco Walmart Special with 12 pound test mono line on it. I’d like to watch that just to see the inevitable faceplant when the line snaps like a gunshot six feet from the boat. LOL
I had a line snap one time, 30 lb test IIRC, and it sounded like a rifle going off...... Have no idea what was on it..................
Yeah, that report from a snapping line can catch you off guard. LOUD!
I had never heard one before, AND it was at NIGHT!................
