Many Police Officers and Their Unions Are Pushing Back Hard Against Vaccine Mandates

For hundreds of public employees in the state of Washington, where a new vaccine mandate for state employees went into effect this week, Monday was their last day on the job. That includes a sergeant with the Washington State Patrol, who told KUOW, Seattle's NPR station, that he had made an appointment to turn in his patrol car and equipment.

In Los Angeles County, Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced earlier this month that he would not carry out the county's mandate for his department's 18,000 employees, warning that the nation's most populous county could lose "5, 10% of my workforce overnight."

And in Chicago, the clash between police and city officials over the city's vaccine mandate has grown so contentious that a judge ordered the local union president to stop making public statements after the city's attorney accused him of "municipal sedition and treason."

As vaccine mandates for public employees begin to take effect across the country, police officers and the unions that represent them are putting up a fight, frustrating officials who say their goal is to minimize deaths as the COVID-19 pandemic drags on.

"More police officers die of COVID than they do in other causes of death, so it doesn't make any sense to not try to protect yourself as well as the colleagues that you work with," Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease official, said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday."

We might not have gotten here if these same people had pushed back when they were told to put their boots on the necks of their fellow citizens to enforce unconstitutional CoupFlu diktats...

They should be pushing back against the commie mayors and governors.

What if EVERY politician was stopped on their way to work for speeding, or seat belt violation ?

Do you think it MIGHT plant the seed of, "Oh, NOW I see how I've been harassing my constituents for no reason"

?

The Chickens are coming home to roost. This is what happens when you think you are above the law with one set of special rules for you and a different set of rules for everyone else.

Like firearms. All new firearms laws exempt Law Enforcement, they think this status should extend to everything. Well this vaccine thing is like being told they have to give up their firearms too just like everyone else. Now they are not happy with being classed the same as lowly “perps”.

Someone standing up, but of course the thread devolves into “bah humbug I hate cops!”

Some conservatives want to lose just so they can complain about it.

At least it's a start. Every thinking person should get a clue and resist the tyranny. It is nothing but nonsense.

They are only standing up because it affects them also. Have they universally went to bat for the general “perp public” over 2nd amendment rights? No because they are exempt and above the laws imposed on us.

You can bet that if they were exempt from the vaccine they would be just fine with enforcing the same agenda Australia is enforcing in the line of duty.

Any and all fights against the vaccine are good and needed at this point. But in this case it is the “why they are” that is important. It is not a fight for everyone across the board, it is a fight for only their own personal interests.

They were fine with all they tyranny they enforce until it came down to their own bodies being forced to get the jab...

Wait, what? I have been instructed here that unions are bad all the time and in every case.

Propaganda slogans of the early 21st Century

“top infectious disease official”

“safe and effective”

“most secure elections in history”

The fact that you believe that cops think of the general public as “perps” is very telling of your bias clouding your perception. Cops aren’t exempt from the law on 2A restrictions. Some states have LE carve-outs. I’m not aware of many, if any, new gun control laws (NJ a couple years ago to make one) making exemptions for cops. Here in my neck of the liberal woods, there’s an older law that exempts cops from the state “AWB” — for line of duty purposes only. They need letterhead from their department verifying that the gun is for duty use, and the exemption such as it is ends when they retire. Incidentally the carve-out applies to DA’s, and I believe EMTs as well. It’s a murky situation, many cops are not out buying “toys” for themselves because they can be held to account if they buy “assault weapons” just for themselves. A police chief out in the western part of the state was charged for violating the state’s inane gun storage laws too. They aren’t above the law.

I can’t and won’t bet that American LE would enforce vaccines Australia-style, considering that they have not done so. The police in my town have not enforced anything — in fact I’ve interacted with cops who openly flouted the mask mandate and who were telling people not to bother with the masks, at the height of the Covid situation. I’m not aware of a single instance of the governor’s curfew having been enforced by state police either.

Most people are like that, though. It’s tough to get them to make career-ending decisions until something affects them directly. We are now “fortunate” in the sense that leftist overreach is directly affecting a great many people who are now resisting. We should use that to help clean house next year, not carp about why they weren’t with us sooner.

What if EVERY politician was stopped on their way to work for speeding, or seat belt violation ?

What if EVERY politician had to submit to a random drug and alcohol test? Just like they mandate to EVERY truck driver in the nation. You test positive you are gone!

Of course we know that's not gonna happen because they are above the rest of us lemmings.

Doesn't refusing vaccines against this virus and it's variants become a self extinguishing concern? The vaccines don't end the spread or contagiousness of the virus, so won't people too stupid to get vaccinated just die out? Doesn't that solve the problem?

Unless there is another purpose to mass vaccination of this virus and these vaccines? Then if it's so important, why are so many government officials and their families exempt from taking the jabs?
