For your pleasure (or not!).
Not what one would expect from Zappa, whether before or after the bong hit. The frenetic play with effects against a slow, aetherial vamp results in a “can you follow me” set of measures worthy of note.
he is missed.
One of his signature tunes. A jazz standard today.
I read that all his guitar tracks were live takes. He hated playing in the studio so they would tour, do the songs and take an isolated track of his guitar to add to the studio recorded tracks later.
Good link. Thanks I needed to hear some Zappa today.
“he hated playing in the studio”
Zappa’s studio was his home. He lived and breathed studio.
Zappa liked his improvisations while playing live. So he constantly recorded multitrack on all his shows.
He was also known to take Solos from song A and apply them to song B. He mixed and mashed live recordings.
Yes, that applied to everything but his lead guitar tracks. And he was a master in the studio, as you know.
Zappa recorded guitar solos in the studio. I have followed him since his 1st album. All that early stuff through early 1970s was done in the studio including his solos.
Later on after he had the technology to multitrack recordings all his live shows and get clean recordings of his guitar solos — be began the mix and mash technique of mining his guitar solos.
He recorded the early shows as well but there was less ability in the 1960s to capture individual guitar solos as the recordings were 2 track and later on 4 track etc.
bkmk
Suzy? Suzy Creamcheese?
That all the farther back i go ....
Who are the Brain Police?
Frank didn’t smoke weed.
Correct. He didn’t do any drugs.
There was an interview towards the end of his life... on NBC, I believe....where he referred to tobacco as his favorite vegetable.
Suzy creamcheese concept goes back to 1st album. The song is on 2nd album. You go back to his beginnings as well.
And coffee as “black water”.
