Hope I didn’t do a repost, because the man died three days ago. A search both on this website and using search engines turned up nothing.

The Chietains are fabulous. Sad news, he was a giant in music. I’ve got to get out my CDs…for a reminiscence with a little Jameson. Love their music.

May he have been in Heaven, an hour before the devil knew he was dead.

Sad news. Saw them live once when everybody was still alive. I’ll have to give one of their CDs a listen.

RIP, Paddy.
I was lucky to see them twice, once in Galway where Van Morrison made an appearance, doing three songs with them from this album, which is a great album (IMHO):

I have four Christmas CDs - Bing Crosby, The Judds, a collection of various artists, and a Chieftains concert with Nanci Griffith, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, and others.

The best thing about the 1992 movie “Far and Away” (Tom Cruise, Nichole Kidman with Ron Howard directing) was the score. John Williams composed but there was lots of the Chieftains pieces used to very good effect! I am listening to the album now.
Ah Paddy, at age 83 it can hardly be said that we never knew ye BUT you have left us a magnificent legacy! In 1938, it is hardly likely that many outside Irish ancestry heard much of this music unless it came through sea chanties or immigrant folk music. Now, we have a tremendous world-wide catalog from Paddy to Riverdance to Enya to ...!
God Bless and may the wind ever be at your back!
