French study of over 22m people finds vaccines cut severe Covid risk by 90%

Vaccination reduces the risk of dying or being hospitalised with Covid-19 by 90%, a French study of 22.6 million people over the age of 50 has found.

The research published on Monday also found that vaccines appear to protect against the worst effects of the most prevalent virus strain, the Delta variant.

“This means that those who are vaccinated are nine times less at risk of being hospitalised or dying from Covid-19 than those who have not been vaccinated,” the epidemiologist Mahmoud Zureik, who oversaw the research, told Agence France-Presse.

The study – the largest of its kind so far – was carried out by Epi-Phare a scientific group set up by France’s health system, its national health insurance fund, l’Assurance Maladie (CNAM), and the country’s ANSM medicines agency.

If you're going to post garbage from The Guardian, it would be useful to add a link to a more reputable source on actual statistics if they exist or find a previous article that contradicts The Guardian's narrative.

For example, two Israeli vaccine studies contradict each other on their findings but the Guardian only mentions the one that fits its narrative, a clear sign of journalistic bias which is not surprising as The Guardian has been known for a long time to be a mouthpiece for socialism.

Scrolling down and digging a little coughs up the following salient blurb:

“This is a very short period to evaluate the real impact of the vaccination on this variant,” Zureik said ...

Translation: any inference of the real impact given the few weeks of observation yields a load of crap.

So why would Mahmoud Zureik put out crap?

Ans. Bureaucracy bows to policymakers that control its funding. For those who've served in government, you have no doubt heard your supervisor tell you to get the results out asap when very preliminary data fits what the policymakers want to see even as you know the 'work product' is not ripe.

So why would Mahmoud draw attention down into the article that the evaluation period was so short? My guess is he has a guilt twang of scientific ethics bubbling out. He's likely prefacing his results to the broad scientific community who will rip his reputation to shreds if he puts out crap, so he mentions a caveat. This is typical in bureaucracy.

I work with young people...22-45...and they have taken the VAX..and the Booster's...
