Biden reveals 'game-changing' plan to get 'toasters and sneakers' back on the shelves by opening ports 24/7 and having truckers drive at night after Psaki said WH couldn't guarantee Christmas gifts would arrive on time

President Joe Biden touted new commitments from businesses and ports Wednesday as his administration rushes to ease supply chain backlogs in time to ease the burden on Christmas shoppers and avoid being cast as a Scrooge.

'With the holidays coming up, you might be wondering if gifts you plan to buy will arrive on time?' Biden said, acknowledging the crush of commercial and online orders at risk of disruption as the holiday season approaches.

'I know you’re hearing a lot about something called supply chains and how hard it is to get a range of things from a toaster to sneakers to bicycles to bedroom furniture.'(snip)

Biden reached a deal on Wednesday with unions and business leaders from Walmart, FedEx, UPS and others to expand operations at one of the country's largest shipping ports in a bid to ease supply chain bottlenecks that are driving up consumer prices and emptying store shelves.

Once implemented the proposed changes could increase output by more than 3,500 shipping containers per week, White House officials said.

'Traditionally, our ports have only been open during the week, Monday through Friday. And they're generally closed down at nights and on weekends. By staying open seven days a week through the night and on the weekends, the port of Los Angeles will open over 60 extra hours a week,' he continued. 'That will almost double the number of hours that the port is open for business than earlier this year.'

I would have thought all ports are open 24/7 for receiving and shipping.

The government shut down everything because someone got Covid. Continuing their foolishness with these vaccine mandates. It will take a couple years to fix.

Sure....President Brandon “changed the game” alright. We went from mean tweets and low gas prices to incoherence and massive inflation.

I think this supply chain disruption which is mostly a chinese supply issue is good for the country. the global economy doesn’t work. and china is not going to let it work to our advantage. they are commies. don’t buy chinese crap. Your relying on the 1. chinese commies for manufacture and the 2. US commies in LA, Seattle, etc commies to unload it. screw them. ANd the little kiddies not getting thier stupid commie toys for christmas so what. Daddy buy a used welder and build your kid a toy. of course you might have to smelt the iron ore yourself as we now don’t make steel anymore.

Also look a the port of LA web page. review the idiot commissioners that run it. note that the job of the port is to keep water clean not actually unload ships.

"Once implemented the proposed changes could increase output by more than 3,500 shipping containers per week, White House officials said."

I've read where the larger of these container ships can carry upwards of 10,000 to 20,000 individual shipping containers. If so, then an additional "3,500 shipping containers per week" isn't anything to write home about ... or hold a press conference about either.

More fakery. Dammit, let's go, Brandon.

Working the ports is dangerous. My brother in law witnessed several horrific accidents. One where a guy was run over and he said it was literally like the cartoons where the person was completely flattened

Working at night is even more dangerous
