Separate link to the phone interview - here.
Bill Bartlett played guitar on Green Tambourine for the Lemon Pipers and was a really good guitar player. He's probably living off that song because I'm guessing he never made any money off of Black Betty.
It's an interesting song because its roots go back well into the 1800's. The first verse was likely written about a musket. Leadbelly recorded the song in the 1930's.
Bartlett spills what the last 2 verses (that he wrote) are about. Good to see he's alive and well.

Here's a link to actual song: Ram Jam - Black Betty (240 million views on usetube). Just a backyard jam on Long Island w/ hot chicks on Harleys that absolutely rocks. Man the 70's were great!

Apologies - use the first link (right under the title) for the interview. The last two are both to the song itself.

"black Betty bam a lam".
1978 summer, we teased a white neighbor named Brian with this song.

If you listen to the interview (which is short but fascinating), you’ll come to know what it’s really about - and it isn’t a black woman.

“Just heard The Rolling Stones are going to stop singing Brown Sugar”
doesnt matter. I’ve seen them many, many times play that song live.

Huh. Tom Jones is about the last one I would think of, to cover that song.

The setting and execution make for fine entertainment. I’ve seen that a few times. Never disappoints. How intriguing that The Lemon Pipers guitarist is part of it!

They probably aren’t going to be singing much anything anymore.
Mick Jagger is 78. Keith Richards is 77 (and likely undead).
Ronnie Wood is a chipper 74.

Green Tambourine! OMG!!
There is a YouTube video of this where the Lemon Pipers must have been stoned when it was filmed. Alternatively, it would be a hoot to watch the vid when stoned.
