Nets ban Kyrie Irving from team until he’s vaccinated
NY Post ^ | October 12, 2021 | Jeremy Layton

In the wake of Nets star Kyrie Irving’s apparent refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the 29-year-old will not play until he does, the team announced in a surprise statement Tuesday morning.

Exactly one week before the Nets kick off their regular season against the Bucks, the team announced Irving will not practice or play — even during away games, where he is allowed to participate.

“Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant,” the statement read. “Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently, the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.

“It is imperative that we continue to build chemistry as a team and remain true to our long-established values of togetherness and sacrifice. Our championship goals for the season have not changed, and to achieve these goals each member of our organization must pull in the same direction. We are excited for the start of the season and look forward to a successful campaign that will make the borough of Brooklyn proud.”

Must be team rules since there is no federal requirement currently. Maybe never will be. But, who has the bank to take them to task over this? No one I can think of can outspend the gov.

Irving’s decision should be his own, even though he is a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

Due to local restrictions in New York, every Nets and Knicks player must be vaccinated to practice or play home games. Irving is the only member of the Nets who is not vaccinated.

Magic Johnson was allowed to play with HIV, but Kyrie Irving can’t play even though he doesn’t have Covid.

I 100% stand with Kyrie Irving. He has the financial means to survive a suspension. Will he be able to survive the evil media onslaught coming his way? Now he needs the people to fight alongside him.

And the league and media branded any player who didn’t want to play with or against Magic as a racist homophobe.

I bet his contract has a “I play or I become a free agent” clause.

Irving is a Flat-Earther and generally a moron, but even morons have the right to make their own healthcare decisions. If he doesn’t want to get vaccinated, that’s his right and his decision to make. As for the Nets - screw them, they knew what they were getting when they signed him and the only reason they did sign him was because they knew he would bring Kevin Durant with him.

There’s a loophole for athletes and the glitterati.

The NBA can’t blame NYC or NYS.

And we have a special visiting guest star helping our team out tonight, Mr. Kyrie Irving.

Can you give him a warm welcome, please.

They need to give him his unconditional release from his contract and let him go to whatever team is willing to pay him the most. They have the right to set conditions for his employment, but not to keep him like an indentured servant. Seems to me they have breeched their contract with him. Let the courts decide if they want to go that route.

The loophole is for the away team playing in New York unvaccinated.

I can’t imagine his contract requires medical procedures be performed against the wishes of the player. Hoping the team will still have to remit full salary during the suspension.
