Advocates say voter ID laws could disproportionately impact minorities.
As voters across Texas submitted voter registration applications on Monday, Oct. 4, ahead of the Nov. 2 statewide election, 82-year-old Elmira Hicks was left out.The Oakwood, Texas, native says she hasn't been able to renew her driver's license for more than a year because she has been unable to present the required birth certificate needed to verify her identity.
In the Lone Star State, election laws require voters to present a driver's license, passport, military identification card, citizenship certificate, state election identification certificate or a personal identification card to cast a ballot or register to vote.

Birth certificates can be reissued.
This old lady, and whatever family members she has left, are allowing themselves to be used by the left. Probably getting paid for it too.

“How did she get a driver’s license?”
Probably the same way my white Italian mother in law did, with her baptism certificate and church marriage certificate.
They (social security, medicare, DPS etc), no longer accept church docs as proof of age and proof of birth in the US.
And this is the basis for NOBODY needing ID to vote????????
Losing her's merely means she needs to get a new one. The same way should would need to do if she wants to fly, buy tabbaco or alcohol, open a bank account or any of dozens of normal every day life issues

New drivers licenses are typically real-id. These require more proof.
Absolutely ridiculous. I’ve worked as a precinct judge in Texas before and I can tell you that all sorts of identification can be used - utility bills, employee IDs, etc. At each precinct, there is an envelope for provision ballots. YOU CANNOT DENY ANYONE WHO COMES TO THE POLLS THE ABILITY TO VOTE!!!
The provisional ballot is filled out and stored in the envelope. A judge is then called to decide on the validity of the vote, which is done on a case-by-case basis.
There are federal laws about this.
So whoever wrote this story is either grossly ignorant or a baldface liar. Either is believable with modern journalists.
Yep. This is yet more pure agitprop...
Of course it’s a lie. The author of the original article is conflating the issues of getting a Federally mandated “RealID” drivers license with being able to register to vote.
It’s a lie. They know it’s a lie.
They don’t CARE.
It was also additional revenue for the state.
When I went to get my “real” license they wouldn’t accept my orig marriage license (which is what the state based their info on), nor my orig birth cert (told them “those are my feet”).
Even in the remote case her story is true, how many eligible voters have the same problem? They take a case that only affects a minuscule minority of people and blow it out of proportion.
How many black “persons” in Texas are “unable to obtain ID needed to vote”? Somebody found “one” in “rural” Texas.
Voter fraud is ignored because it is never enough to change the outcome of an election BUT if some idiot can’t get a valid ID then all the elections laws have to be rewritten.
Texas is among the states favored by illegal aliens for issuing “Delayed birth certificates” based on little more than the statements of people who claim to know the facts of the birth. It’s been one of their scams for decades. Any immigration attorney worth his degree from Fred’s Online Law Schoo and Check Cashing Emporium could fix this problem in a matter of days.
Simply by showing her welfare ID card.
“””Black woman in rural Texas unable to obtain ID needed to vote, advocates say system is unfair”””
Here we have ONE anecdotal story about ONE BLACK woman who is having a problem being able to register to vote.
Well, then the ONLY solution, according to the Democrats and the media, is to NOT require anyone to have an ID in order to vote.
As the genealogist in my family, there is a lot of public available evidence besides a birth certificate that would prove a person was a citizen or not.
It isn’t even about intellect, the daughter emphasizes that’s it’s just too hard making her mother have to get an ID, not that it can’t be done.
They are saying it should be “easier” for someone who is old and black.
In other words, no voter ID laws, so the Dems can continue to cheat.
Like most of these stunts the Dems. have pulled over the years, I suspect much of this isn’t true and there are Dem. activists posing as victims. That’s the way Democrats operate.
No voter ID for anyone, because of 1 person?
Yes, the few outliers in a situation like this one (which can probably be resolved) should govern voter identification for everyone.
