But that’s not what ATSDR replied back with ("admitted"). The FOIA response stated that the “CDC does not purify or isolate” the named virus “in the manner the requestor describes”
Please note that Robert O. Young is a convicted felon. He was found guilty to practicing medicine without a license. He also has a $105 million judgement taken against him regarding claims he made representing himself as a doctor. Young’s credibility is a relevant factor to be evaluated against anything he writes regarding medicine.

But maybe the microscope was lying to me. It was several decades ago, but the pictures looked like this one with the phages:

You never did.
The process you are describing applies to much larger bacteria and other items of similar size, not viruses. Even to this day, most viruses cannot be seen by electron micrscopy and microtomes are not an appropriate tool (have to use an ultramicrotome). You can't prepare viruses the way you describe. But bacterial and animal/plant cells are prepared using your process.
