Wikipedia Co-Founder Says Online Encyclopedia is Now Largely Just “Leftist Propaganda”

Used as a tool to demonize contrarians and anyone on the right.

Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger has blasted the site for its slide into “leftist propaganda,” accusing it of long since abandoning impartiality and simply becoming an amplifier for mainstream news narratives.

anger co-founded Wikipedia with with Jimmy Wales in 2001.

During an interview with the Epoch Times, Sanger noted that the online encyclopedia began with noble intentions but is now just another tool to demonize people who challenge the consensus.

“Wikipedia made a real effort at neutrality for, I would say, its first five years or so,” said Sanger, adding, “And then … it began a long, slow slide into what I would call leftist propaganda.”

Wikipedia is run by around 125,000 volunteer editors, the vast majority of whom are leftists, with a further 1,000 administrators who enjoy special privileges to block others who go against the grain.

Sanger explained how Wikipedia now serves not just to skew information, but to viciously demonize anyone on the right or anyone deemed to be a “contrarian.”

Wikipedia “casts them as conspiracy theorists, are far right or whatever, when they and their friends and people who know them well would never describe them in that way,” Sanger said.

After banning sources such as Fox News or the Daily Mail, Wikipedia now relies almost entirely on far-left outlets and legacy media sources to determine truth.

“More recently, they’ve gotten rid of almost all conservative news sources as sources for their articles,” he said

“And so as the news media has shifted, and as the establishment, frankly, has shifted more to the left or to the left, the content of Wikipedia has followed suit.”

As we previously highlighted, a perfect example of Wikipedia’s extreme political bias was evident when the website’s editors deliberately sought to bury links between convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and Bill Clinton.

The fact that Clinton flew on Epstein’s ‘Lolita Express’ private jet at least 26 times, which was reported by the media multiple times back in 2016, disappeared from Wikipedia before it was added back in after an outcry.

Editors also sought to scrub any of Epstein’s links to Clinton while amplifying his links to Donald Trump, which were less direct and less damaging.

Nah. Conservatives are not lazy. Conservatives are some of the hardest working of anybody. The fatal flaw is that Conservatives eschew activism.

I would not argue with that.

But lets be honest. We did fail to stay involved, to pass on history and traditions.

an “ism” is an ideology, do we not have any? What is conservatism? My observation is that conservatism can mean anything you want it to be.

But 10 Conservative Principles are presented here:

https://kirkcenter.org/conservatism/ten-conservative-principles/

Note that “Conservatism” is more a philosophy, rather than an “ism”.

If only all here on FR would have a philosophy, rather than an “ism”. There in lies freedom.

If I’m watching something on tv and one of the actors looks familiar, I go to Wikipedia to see what other shows/movies they have been in. Other than that, I stay away.

Part of our job is to support independent voices across the political spectrum.

There are many small fire fights to be done. No magic bullets to solve our problems. We thought Trump was an easy magic bullet, and he did his part and I for one am grateful to him. No the effort is back to us being involved in some way shape or form.

I would also say we need to get more involved in local and state politics.

“A well regulated militia being necessary for..........”

Can anyone complete that sentence?

What did a free state mean?

It may seem obvious, but Rosen and Rakove agree the Constitution bore a lot of contemporary moralism and not every word is well-defined.

In this case, the meaning of “state” is what it appears to be.

“This is referring immediately to ‘state’ as in one of the states of the original colonies,”

Rosen says. “James Madison had the 1777 Virginia Declaration of Rights by his side when he wrote the Bill of Rights and he essentially copied and pasted language from it.”

Should our focus be on states? If we take back the power to the states it means less power in the central government. We have many states now beginning to assert their rights and need to encourage it. THIS MAY BE THE BEST LINE OF BATTLE.

The satellite countries being tired and jealous of the centralized government was one of the factors leading to the demise of the soviet union.

I agree with that. It’s a principle and not an ideology. That’s why there aren’t very many contradictions for a conservative.

There are some, and arguably the lack of activism is the biggest. I’ll always regard the Tea Party as the pinnacle of conservatism at large. We worked hard, and we won. And then we sat down. Sad.

I know I can educate a lot of people using my microphone and I’ll keep doing it, but I also know its not enough. I need to find other conservatives who do actually want to be activist but I don’t know where they are.

<>We couldn’t use Wikipedia as a source in university over 15 years ago<>

But nothing prevents anyone from checking out, when available, the Wiki footnote sources.

This is true, and quite the saver of time.

It sounds like you might have saved yourself some time previously.

Not that I’m informing you of anything, but skepticism of all digital info is a virtue.

Heck, online newspapers rewrite stories that, months later, become embarrassing.

I cherish my books authored by respected historians more than ever.

It is the old salesmen attitude, knock on 100 doors and you will get one sale.

or

speak the Good News and shake the dust from your feet of those that dont’ want to hear.

Having said that, I am old and tired....................

But I have managed to find a few warriors.

Wikipedia is very good on stuff like mathematics—but at some point they will figure out that “math is racist”—at that point I guess they will just eliminate all math pages!

If you want to know who Frank Zappa’s drummers were over the years, or what order to read the Recluce novels, Wikipedia is a fine resource.

If it’s anything even remotely political or religious, go elsewhere.
