Hi All!
We are finally doing it - fleeing New York State! I haven't posted in forever, so I hope I'm doing this right.
There was a really cool house in Parkersburg that we liked - but it did need too much work. And the crime rate in Parkersburg was a little higher than we expected. Otherwise, it seems like a really great place. Lots of conveniences and a good general location.
Be careful. Have you spent much time in the south? Lots of alligators and HOT weather.
Do you know what half backs are? They're people who moved to Florida from New England, couldn't take the weather and moved halfway back to the Carolinas.
I lived in rural VA when I was a young-un. One morning when I went into the bathroom I found a possum in the bathtub. My step-brothers had caught it the night before, and put it there hoping to be allowed to keep it as a pet.
Do you know how many West Virginia jokes there are?
One, the rest are all true!
Winter weather - not a problem. While we are not in Buffalo, NY - we do get a LOT of snow most winters. We even had 48-ish inches dumped in one day last year (?). That was actually a little scary for me because I am short!
I checked into weather, floods, healthcare, grocery stores, crime rates, topography (wanted hills so it would feel like home), friendliness of the locals, internet availability, proximity to an international airport, and distance to Gettysburg.
Ticks all the boxes.
You will be at home in WV!
I live in the Ohio Valley on the Ohio side of the river just northwest of Wheeling, WV. It’s not a bad area, very quiet usually. Cost of living ain’t too bad but there can be quite a distance between stores and such.
I was raised in Wellsburg, WVa right in the Ohio River. There was no jobs when I graduated from WVU so I moved to Pittsburgh where I still live. Most of my family still live in Wellsburg area. I loved the state and Northern panhandle area especially. Wellsburg is Trump country as is most of WVA.
Are you by Blue Mountain?
I hate what they have done to my home state....
haven't lived there in 45 yrs and still miss it...but not the govt.
We are very much looking forward to our move. We have had the tip-off that our offer is accepted, but it won’t become formal until tomorrow.
I’ve hid that from Mr. LF just in case something goes in the wrong direction. I don’t want him to be disappointed.
Is it weird that moving to a quiet small town is an adventure?
LOL.
If Y’All see any BMW’s on blocks in a front yard it’s not a Salvage Yard. It’s the sign saying “We are West Virginia Yuppies.”
I know a guy in Mansfield, retired from the NYPD. He loves it there. And they even brought him on as a city cop.
CC
Wait a minute! Did you guys get fully Covid vaccinated?(/S)
A rich Georgian has two cars on blocks….
Well, the Congressional delegation and electoral votes. It’s been 3 straight Senate wins for the rats. Rats with both House seats. No GOP vote for President since 2000, and only then cause of Nader. (2016 Senate and E votes were stolen but it was close enough to do so)
Until the current Sununu it was rat Governors since 1997 other than one 2-year term.
It’s swing state, while it’s usually close rats have been coming out on top, GOP is advantaged in the state legislature.
Hopefully Sununu wins the Senate race and GOP gets a House seat back next year.
Best wishes in your new state and town.
Grew up in the Syracuse area but left in 1980 for a better job. Still have family there but state just keeps going down hill. Too bad.
