I write this feeling awkward and a bit old. Like millions across the country, I found myself gripped by 22-year-old Gabby Petito’s tragic homicide in Wyoming. She could have been my daughter Then, it struck me that this isn’t the usual somewhat embarrassing “rubbernecking” over true crime, and in this case involving a beautiful young woman. Instead, it reflects a broader societal problem.
What grabbed me most is the video of her encounter with her boyfriend , Brian Laundrie, and the Moab, Utah police. The couple had been having an extended and public “lovers’ quarrel” that was so bad it led to police involvement. She is sitting in her vehicle and crying uncontrollably about how they have been “fighting all morning.” But oddly, witnesses report that she was the aggressor toward Brian. in the video, the police officer notes that he has scratches on his face and is bleeding.
She was then the victim of a homicide soon afterward. Why? What happened? Brian is in hiding and sure looks guilty.
The couple claimed to be engaged, but there was no wedding date. Also, before Gabby went on a long cross-country trip alone with Brian, she lived with him at his parents’ home in Florida. Nothing was ever formalized nor did they act like a young couple stepping into the world of full adult maturity.
So, what struck me—and I know I come across like a 1950s dad—is that so much of this could have been avoided if young women like Gabby did not fully give themselves emotionally and sexually to young men like Brian, with no commitment.

No, it did not. But she did a stupid thing and now she is dead. Sad actually it is very sad. They should give his parents 20 years each for giving birth to a bastard like him.
The point is that his lack of real commitment should have been a red flag to this girl and caused her to think about not staying attached to him, let alone think about marrying him at all. Open-ended "engagements" are a ploy by irresponsible men to string a girl along and women fall for it because of their own insecurity. And women further deceive themselves that eventually they can change their bad boy into a decent human being. It doesn't happen. As they used to say, it's a way for men to get the milk without buying the cow.
Some of those pictures were taken on CLIFFS and other somewhat dangerous places.....it just seemed to me that she was such a narcissist that she would be doing more and more dangerous shoots for her "FOLLOWERS" to be entertained. And way too many SELFIE SELFERS come to a bad end at the bottom of a canyon.
You buy into the media stuff.
I pay no attention to the “media”.
I just observe with my own eyes in the real world.
If you pay attention you will be stunned at how many “no ambition, no money, no prospects” type attract a lot of women.
What these types of men have in common is they are experts at “faking it” and represent “excitement” and a bit of “danger”.
Living in a van/RV or on board a smaller vessel will bring out the best or the worst in couples.
After tying up in many marinas I have seen both sides.

I totally agree. However a lot of those mothers don’t have a clue either and many dads are no longer in the picture. It’s assumed that young women need moms more than dads but that is not the case during puberty. I think in Gabby’s case that she had a dad present, but things went wrong anyway.
Reading between the lines it seems as if Gabby had emotional and mental problems which were more than the young boyfriend was capable of handling. I can easily envision that there was a violent argument whereby she fell or was pushed and ended in her death with no intention of killing her. Then because of his youth and poor judgment he hightails it. That’s the picture that I’m getting from all of this.
Constantly. We were all told growing up by both our mothers and our fathers. Common knowledge among us.
You haven’t enough information about Brian Laundrie. He wasn’t just a guy who couldn’t handle it.

In a larger context, what is missing from society in general is that you dont put your hands on another person. Far too many people feel that they have a right to grab or hit someone when they are frustrated or angry. Self control and restraint are no longer in play in confrontations.
I believe this important lesson was lost when we started to rely on the Police for self defense. It used to be that if you attacked someone, you had a good chance of either getting your butt whipped or shot - and then the police came to clean up aftwards and would take you to jail if you were the agressor. That awareness is no longer in the public mindset. The attackers no longer fear the police or the courts. It is time to make them fear who they attack.

Women are taught they are strong and independent.
This means they can handle Chad and Tyrone, ie the Bad Bois.

If the strong independent woman survives, she hits The Wall, when she is no longer all that hot, and Chad has better things to do.
Then she looks for a beta for financial support and help raising the children she had with probably both Chad and Tyrone.

No and inquiring minds would like to know why not.
They were shot to death and there are leaks that claim Gabby was strangled. If that is true then likely he did not kill those girls. The authorities have said there is no link but offered up no explanation.
I’m thinking they can’t come out and say the two differences in the way the murders were committed is what makes them say they are not connected but I’m still waiting to see. The autopsy results still are pending.

The parents of this child didn’t see an issue and allowed America’s daughter to roam the country with such a troubled person?
