I write this feeling awkward and a bit old. Like millions across the country, I found myself gripped by 22-year-old Gabby Petito’s tragic homicide in Wyoming. She could have been my daughter Then, it struck me that this isn’t the usual somewhat embarrassing “rubbernecking” over true crime, and in this case involving a beautiful young woman. Instead, it reflects a broader societal problem.
What grabbed me most is the video of her encounter with her boyfriend , Brian Laundrie, and the Moab, Utah police. The couple had been having an extended and public “lovers’ quarrel” that was so bad it led to police involvement. She is sitting in her vehicle and crying uncontrollably about how they have been “fighting all morning.” But oddly, witnesses report that she was the aggressor toward Brian. in the video, the police officer notes that he has scratches on his face and is bleeding.
She was then the victim of a homicide soon afterward. Why? What happened? Brian is in hiding and sure looks guilty.
The couple claimed to be engaged, but there was no wedding date. Also, before Gabby went on a long cross-country trip alone with Brian, she lived with him at his parents’ home in Florida. Nothing was ever formalized nor did they act like a young couple stepping into the world of full adult maturity.
So, what struck me—and I know I come across like a 1950s dad—is that so much of this could have been avoided if young women like Gabby did not fully give themselves emotionally and sexually to young men like Brian, with no commitment.

RE: somebody forgot the never consider there is more to the story rule.
Can you name a few items that were missed?
The Monarch thing seems to be more than just an asterisk.
.
This case is being used by hard news to overshadow Biden’s tragic policies and failures.

I think lots of parents allow their children entirely TOO much unsupervised time, while ‘growing up’, and then just assume the child is mature enough to get into personal (intimate) relationships that would be more appropriate later in their lives.
I worked with young college people who had no grasp of the
seriousness of their personal conduct in ‘relationship’ issues. I know...I'm a square
Many young women love danger and excitement.
Nobody is going to talk them out of it.
Age seems to be the best cure.
Young people make lots of stupid mistakes—if they survive them they get to be older and wiser.
I didn’t know she was “America’s daughter” until I saw the headline on Foxnews’ website.
"What has led her and millions of other young women down the road to this kind of life? The answer, in large part, is that the modern feminist movement has sold a couple of huge lies to young women. The first is that sex lacks an emotional component, so it will leave no mark. And the second is that, if you get pregnant, and don’t want the baby, just get an abortion because that is “reproductive health care.”"
or in this case, death.
I never knew they had a violent relationship.
Other causes...situation ethics, philosophical nihilism and solipsism, fatalism, self indulgence, disrespect for life, mental disease, mind altering drugs, and the time honored sequelae of such....greed, hate, cruelty, theft, murder, lying...etc....it is sad that we see some of that come together in one couple.
Wait. If they had gotten married this guy would have morphed into a decent human being? Is that the point?
Yup—young people love to gamble, and it is not gambling unless you lose big sometimes.
Back in the 50s the mothers would instruct their daughters to the recognition of men out to use them for sexual pleasure and give nothing in return. Cautionary tales of how a woman could being taken advantage of were abundant. They went into the adult world forewarned of how they needed to take care not to allow themselves to be used. What to look out for and who to value.
But it seems the mothers today have no understanding of what can happen to their daughters involved sexually with a man who offers no financial security, shows no promise to care for their daughters. It’s as if they just believe it will happen if the girl throws herself the man’s way.
The left started all the stuff about women’s lib and how they were being done out of the pleasures of sex and the importance for them to have a career. The inflation produced by the left’s spending policies made it necessary for women to work, the children left home alone or in daycare centers till mom can pick them up.
Today many women foolishly go with men who treat them as if they are throw always unless they give up themselves to them. Hence the need from the left for the abortion industry and one of the results is the whole structure of the family unit has fallen apart, the core of the country.
Me neither and I didnt know she “touched the world” until I drove by the Town Green and saw a huge poster that reads just that.
There are probably 2 or 3 nursing/assited living homes with-in a 4 mile radius of Laundries place, wonder how many she volunteered at ?
Those kids are the chaotic future. They will probably need to be reined in by authoritarian relationships( civil and governmental) in order to survive. Unless they become squares themselves.
Not to excuse murder, but if this is true then why wasn't she arrested?
