Actor Michael K. Williams died of acute drug intoxication in what New York City’s medical examiner said Friday was an accidental death.
Williams, known for playing Omar Little on “The Wire” and an Emmy Award nominee this year, had fentanyl, parafluorofentanyl, heroin and cocaine in his system when he died Sept. 6 in Brooklyn.
Williams, 54, was found dead by family members in his penthouse apartment. Police said at the time that they suspected a drug overdose.
The city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner said it would not comment further. A message seeking comment was left with Williams’ representative.
Williams had spoken frankly in interviews in recent years about his struggle with drug addiction, which he said persisted after he gained fame on “The Wire” in the early 2000s.

Is the combo called a speed ball. Geez I would be a statistic in about 2 days. If I made it that long. What ever happened to people just smoking weed. Lol. Oh but that’s a gateway drug. The devil lettuce.
Suicide?
Old junkies don’t kill themselves. One day out-of-the-blue... they just f%%$ up.

“He also made brief appearances on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (playing two different characters on two different seasons), Boston Legal, The Sopranos, Law & Order (playing three different characters on three different seasons), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (also playing two different characters on two different seasons), Human Giant,[28] and Third Watch.[29]”
This guy played multiple characters on multiple seasons of the SAME show and nobody NOTICED!
That’s SEVEN times! A guy with what looks like a scar down the middle of his face, from his hairline, across his forehead, and down over his nose onto his cheek. (Faceoff?)
There’s some old cliché about certain people all looking alike. Apparently the liberal producers of these shows agreed with that.
When I saw his photo, I knew that I knew him from somewhere. That’s why I checked Wikipedia to see what he had been in. He had long and successful career.
I didn’t watch ANY of them except “Lovecraft Country” (series). That’s where I remembered him from.
A clear victim of covidclimatechangesystemicracism.
Another victim of the dreaded deadly GEORGE FLOYD SYNDROME!
I see what you did there!
Michael K. Williams was an extraordinary talent, nominated for 5 Emmys for his work. He was a mesmerizing actor of incredible depth.
I had just finished watching The Wire series the Saturday before he died. He played an iconic character, Omar, who was almost a Robin Hood type of character though he was a very bad hombre. I promptly started Boardwalk Empire, a really good series, where he played Chalky White. I had only watched the first season of that wonderful series a few years ago so finishing it was well worth the watch.
Michael Williams started out as a dancer and choreographer. He was simply an amazing man in the talent department.
All those who were close to him talk of what a sweet, loving man he was in real life. He couldn’t have been further from the characters he played on screen.
Sadly, he grew up in the projects in Flatbush and was sexually abused as a child. He himself told of his demons that he suffered on and off his entire life.
If you bother to read about him, he was well aware of the dangers of slipping into those past times of drug abuse. He talked about the scary things he did while filming Omar and with scary bad people. But he sought out a NJ pastor to help him and that pastor did help him a lot. For years.
Michael also did a lot to help underprivileged children in the “hood” to help them find worth and help in life. Sometimes he went undercover, as much as he could, being he had the most distinctive face, to even serve in soup kitchens. He gave money anonymously to help those in need.
So go ahead and make your crass, rotten remarks. I hope none of you have to deal with childhood abuse, you know nothing of it then, and life’s struggles. You feel better to put him down.
We have lost a great talent and a gentle decent man that made some terrible choices and the last one to buy heroine from a dealer who laced it with Fentanyl would be his last gasp. I do not condone that but I understand struggles and I also view this man as having had worth in life.
He gave a lot to many. I for one love him for that and I was mesmerized by his wonderful performances. RIP Michael K. Williams.
Man if they find me dead from overdose it will be the poor man version, too much tequila, benadryl and spam.
Excellent. My view entirely.
That was not an accident.

“Speedball”
I enjoyed this guy’s acting, and felt bad when I heard he’d passed. Then I saw he’d O.D.’d on Fentanyl. What a dumbass!! I like British actor James Purefoy too. He and Williams starred in a series called “Hap & Leonard,” which is based on a series of books. I liked the show, but never read any of the books. The show was cancelled after three seasons. Hadn’t seen him in anything since. I just checked his IMDb profile. He just finished three movies. I’ll never understand why anyone would start doing drugs. It’s madness.
“I would make a terrible drug addict.”
I’m with you. I decided I was going to be an alcoholic a couple months ago so I went to the “liquor cabinet” and all I had one miniature bottle of spiced rum, half empty. My alcoholism was very short lived.
Stupid is not only supposed to hurt. It’s quite frequently fatal.
This is as it should be.

“I WANT YOUR DOR!”
I’ll bet they’re mad they can’t blame his death on a white cop.
