There’s speculation that Laundrie may have originally fled to the reserve as cover, then traveled elsewhere. He could have taken advantage of the chaos at the southern border to slip into Mexico. Some internet sleuths think he’s in Puerto Rico. Or he could have taken off in a number of other directions.
"I don't think he killed himself," Pat Diaz, a retired Miami-Dade homicide detective who has worked alongside state and federal investigators on missing persons cases told FoxNews. "I think he's just going to disappear."
Dan Riemer, a Florida private investigator, agreed.
"That search in the swamp is leading everyone to believe Brian is in the swamp, and no civilians are paying attention to who is around them," he said. "focus needs to be on people being aware, [and] someone will see something, just like the campers who saw then van."
Diaz said he believes that Laundrie may have returned to the West because the swampy preserve is too inhospitable and he probably doesn’t have enough money to bribe authorities abroad.
"He's not going to go to Mexico, because in Mexico there's a lot of Americans there that would recognize him," he said. "I don't believe he'll go to Costa Rica because the only way you could survive in Costa Rica is if you have a lot of money. Otherwise, they’ll give you up."
He also said that he doesn't believe the FBI expects to find Laundrie in the swamp and noted they already likely recovered location data from Laundries’ phone and are probably monitoring friends and relatives who could potentially aid him on the run.
"Who's in charge of the scene [at the nature preserve]? Why not have the bureau out there in charge of the scene?" he said. "Because the bureau doesn't believe he's in the swamp."

Finally...
Are those …cargo shorts?
You dont need your old wallet to travel ... just get a new one ... Mommy or Daddy could have got a cheap one from Walmart ...
He doesnt need a phone .. He wouldnt be contacting Mommy or Daddy for a while ...
They have plenty of money ...they could have bought him new ID so he could get on a plane ...
It isn't about a wallet but about what's in it, like ID.
It was probably left behind to throw off Leos.
As I stated, he probably got a burner phone.

I've been thinking about this...With all the COVID-19 hysteria, I'd think that the airports are very secure right now. Foreign countries are limiting entry, so Laundrie would have had to show proof of vaccine and his passport (if he has one, do we know if he's traveled abroad before?), which would certainly have been flagged.
So that leaves Canada and Mexico. Being an avid camper, he's probably capable of finding a back-road into each country that's not monitored by a border patrol.
In Mexico, I think he'd stand out because he doesn't have the skin tone and body shape of ethnic Mexicans. Besides, he'd have the drug gangs to contend with and lots of open desert spaces or squalid border towns that make it difficult to hide. If he speaks Spanish, it would be with an American accent.
In Canada, on the other hand, he'd fit right in. The border is lush with forestry and hills, he would look like anyone else he comes across, he might not even drive in -- choosing to hike across instead. Then, he can slowly make his way around the central provinces until he figures out what to do next.
Look over here, while I run over there.
I was thinking of what was in it too .. he wouldnt have anything with him to connect him to his real ID, home address etc ...
More hard hitting news. Did they actually think this was not known?
Btw

Maybe 2%. No way the 98% you claim.

Now, if he's paying cash at an upscale hotel, that would be a flag. If he's using a credit card, that would get flagged. That's why I would expect Laundrie to be camping somewhere.

I haven't travelled much since Covid began, but I've never had to produce ID to pay for a hotel room in the US or Canada
Maybe smaller motels don't do it, but I was at a Westin recently, and they wanted it.

I’ve had to show picture ID and a credit card for a while, and not just in Colorado, to check into a hotel.
It's not possible that he can just outrun this, and he's not going to be able to escape to a foreign country and have a normal life.
The only way this ends is for Laundrie is to face the charges. Then he has an opportunity to beat them, or not. But allowing him to continue to try to evade the police and US Marshals just puts his life in jeopardy. It's bizarre that they would allow their own son to twist in the wind, the same way they allowed the Petito family to go weeks without having any information about their missing daughter.
No matter how you look at it, the Laundrie family is pretty disgusting. All the way around.

Good post.
Thanks for the input. I am not current on transactional law, but hotels requiring ID seems rather odd. Why do that when you cane put an overhead camera at the front desk?
Regarding #2, I've made reservations for family members at airport hotels when they were in flight and storms were canceling connections. That way, my family member doesn't have to deal with the chaos at the terminal and worry about rooms being gone when everyone finally lands.
In that case, I make the reservation in the family member's name, not my own.
