Violent, secretive, spiritual and packed full of knowledge, an obscure and mysterious manuscript called the Fight Book has been discovered in Denmark. During a time where we think of knights and horses, the book depicts a more bloody side of Europe in the Middle Ages. Through historical re-creations, CGI and with the help of some leading historians, we reveal the surprising detail that proves medieval society was far more peculiar than we realize. The Secret Fight Master Of The Middle Ages | Medieval Fight Book | Chronicle | August 28, 2021 | Chronicle - Medieval History Documentaries

Wait until you get to the part about special techniques for dueling against the opposite sex!
Time index set to skip Snow. Additional, not too related:
Tony and the team search for the remains of a renegade knight's Norman castle in one of Northern Ireland's most picturesque spots. King John sent John de Courcy to Ireland in 1170 as part of his invasion force, but de Courcy rebelled against his king's orders, instead establishing his own small kingdom and building a fine castle to defend it.The Renegade Knight's Castle In Northern Ireland | Time Team | June 16, 2020 | Timeline - World History Documentaries

I just watched the first five minutes up to the discussion of “judicial combat.” Very fascinating and BRUTAL!
Thanks (as usual) for posting this, SC!

At the 25 second mark...a fighter held his broadsword by the BLADE and slammed the top of his opponent’s helmet with the HANDLE...like a big hammer. Clever. I’ll have to remember that in my next sword fight.

My pleasure! I like that bald guy, he's an expert on various kinds of ancient combat as well, has shown up in various documentaries over the decades.

I think he was using it as a sledge hammer. The “hittee” said getting hit like that made him feel sick to his stomach. Gruesome video!
