People infected with the original strain of the virus that causes COVID-19 early in the pandemic produced a consistent antibody response, making two main groups of antibodies to bind to the spike protein on the virus's outer surface. However, those antibodies don't bind well to newer variants, a new study found.
"Antibody response is quite relevant to everything from understanding natural infection and how we recover from infection to vaccine design. The body has the capability to produce diverse antibody responses—it's estimated we could make a trillion different antibodies. So when you see people are making quite similar antibodies to a particular virus, we call it convergent antibody response," Wu said.
They focused on antibodies against the spike protein, the part of the virus that binds to receptors on human cells to infect them. The spike protein is the target of most vaccines.
They found that many antibody sequences converged into two main groups, indicating a consistent human immune response to the virus.
The researchers studied the convergent antibodies' ability to bind to several variants and found that they no longer bound to some. The finding has implications for the ability of new variants to reinfect people who contracted earlier versions of the virus, as well as for the continuing efficacy of vaccines and the design of possible vaccine boosters, Wu said.
"Even though this antibody response is very common with the original strain, it doesn't really interact with variants," Wu said. "That, of course, raises the concern of the virus evolving to escape the body's main antibody response. Some antibodies should still be effective—the body makes antibodies to many parts of the virus, not only the spike protein—but the particular groups of antibodies that we saw in this study will not be as effective."

Your daughter likely had the flu or something else one of the times she was diagnosed with COVID. The sensitivity on the covid test was set so high that literally any virus detected became a positive covid result. Last winter there were virtually no flu cases when there are usually a minimum of 10M in the US.

Natural immunity has a wider array of weapons than spike protein antibodies. But guess how the vaccines were designed. They were specifically designed to target the spike proteins of the Wuhan variant. That’s it. That’s the vaccine. And that is why natural immunity is proving to be more effective against newer variants. The body’s immune system is better than a laser focused vaccine.
More science fantasy. For a natural virus that is not how it works. For a lab created one, well ??? I do not know enough viral biology.
However, this sure sounds suspicious to me.
Question is if Biden does better for the current strains it will take some time to develop the vaccines. Then your vaccine works for a while until a breakthrough with a new variant.
The point is do we have the capability of vaccinating our way out of this? So far it looks as if the answer is no.
What is a bit curious is the vaccines are to the spike protein. There are other antigenic sites on the virus, so why were they not included?? IDK.

Singapore has fully vaccinated 82% of its population with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. It has very strict control over who enters the country. It also has very rigid government authority and a population that follows rules. The Delta variant hit them in early September. They now have their highest daily new case rates since COVID started. So the answer is absolutely no. We will never be able to vaccinate our way out of COVID. It’s a coronavirus. It mutates too quickly to ever be controlled by a vaccine. This was known before COVID was ever a thing and it hasn’t changed.
My wife and I got Covide in March of 2020 ..... She had it very bad, I had mild symptoms, almost unnoticeable...
We just got it again about two weeks ago....she was sneezing and had very slight shortness of breath.
I was sneezing and got a huge blistery rash over my entire back and upper arms, very similar to chickenpox.
Annoying but hardly a problem for either of us...
You are right, there was something about being unable to produce a vaccine against this virus way back in 2020. At this point it looks like they should pull the plug on the whole project.
Nobody knows anything about covid. Nobody has ever known anything about covid. Everything we think we know about covid has been accepted as true and rejected as false at different times. All we have is fear and an abundance of caution.
Another reason they can’t vaccinate their way out of Covid is because it has also escaped into numerous other mammal species where it can also mutate and then jump back to humans, rinse, repeat with the stupid masks and lockdowns.
It’s time to concentrate on therapies and treatments, not vaccines because this genie is not going back into the bottle.
I personally believe this little bat virus’s ability to infect entire zoo’s worth of mammal species is proof that it is a lab gain of function creation.
We can dump the fear and have some caution.

And not only that, they only have protection against the Feb. 2020 Wuhan virus spike.
I heard a doctor use an analogy to a hand. The entire virus (any virus) is your entire hand. The spike protein is your fingernails. The Covid injection just protects you against a virus with the exact 2020 Wuhan fingernail.
Against any variant, it’s useless, but it does encourage the Covid virus to mutate to ignore the spike protein “fingernails.”
Worse than useless to give it to children in Sept. 2021.
