The study, which was published in the CDCâs Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report on July 30, detailed the July 2021 COVID-19 outbreak in Barnstable County, Massachusettsâspecifically Provincetown. Several large public events in the area led to 469 COVID-19 cases in people who traveled to the area between July 3 and 17. Of the 469 people infected, 346 (or 74%) were fully vaccinated against the virus.

The majority of patients with breakthrough infectionsâ79%âexperienced symptoms, including cough, headaches, sore throat, muscle aches and pains, and fever.

Of those who had breakthrough infections:
159 (46%) had the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine
131 (38%) had the Moderna vaccine
56 (16%) had the Johnson & Johnson vaccine

Among five people who were hospitalized in the outbreak, four were fully vaccinated. No deaths were reported in the outbreak.

Yes. My nearest and dearest are so oblivious, so cavalier about what is happening to everything I hold dear. Itâs numbing. I donât know who theyâve become.
I find myself thinking of that pivotal moment in zombie movies when the guy who is just trying to survive recognizes a loved one has become a zombie who wants to kill him. All humanity and decency is gone from the zombie. The person the zombie was is forever gone.

Americans are not happy. We do not like all the COVID restrictions. We resent the latest lockdowns. We plan to resist the mandate. We are beyond the breaking point. At least that’s the impression I get as I read reports on conservative websites and interact with friends and colleagues. But exit poll results from California tell a very different story, with confirmation from Canada as well.
I’m talking about the rejection of the efforts to recall Gov. Newsom in California and the reelection of Prime Minister Trudeau in Canada, where the COVID restrictions have been much more comprehensive and oppressive. Yet in both cases, it appears that a majority of voters affirmed the way COVID was being handled in their state and nation, respectively.
According to ABC News, “Just about 3 in 10 said Newsom’s pandemic control measures are too strict, countering a key argument in the recall drive against him. A broad 70% supported the state’s student mask mandate, and 63% sided with the governor in seeing vaccination as more of a public health responsibility than a personal choice. Notably, just 24% said the pandemic is getting worse in the state; a plurality, 39%, said it’s improving, with the rest saying it’s staying the same.”
And in the eyes of these voters, which were represented by a large Democratic turnout, the pandemic was their No. 1 concern.
They were not only happy to comply with the governor’s sometimes draconian and discriminatory rulings (which were even overturned by the Supreme Court; see here for one example of several). They actually thought he was doing a good job.

The preteen was so set on getting the vaccine on his birthday that his mom said he asked to be driven to a pharmacy farther from their home rather than waiting for one closer by to open on Monday.
Sporting the cross necklace that his father wore while hospitalized with the virus last year, Gavin sat still as the nurse injected his left arm. Alice Roberts, who stood nearby snapping pictures, said she exhaled in relief.
An elementary school social studies teacher who first wrote about her sonâs experience in a column published by NJ.com, Alice Roberts said she hopes Gavinâs story can serve as an example for the millions of Americans who have yet to schedule their shots.
