They are hammer stones for shaping rocks and stones.
Egyptians used similar tools to shape the limestone casing stones on the Pyramids.

They were put in the tombs, so when archaeologists find them they wonder what they are... 🤓

Or they are ancient baseball by a prehistoric Babe Ruth... 🤓

These were found in Scotland you say?

Och, these Sassenachs wrong again. We Scots made these to carry in our sporrans to scare the English...they could hear our balls clanking a mile away. Put the fear of real men into them it did.

Those were not ‘carved’ they came from tumbling in a stream, and someone just kept them because they were interesting.

The person in the tomb didn’t happen to be named Ben Wa?

This appears to follow the pattern of the classic 'passage tomb.'

These findings remind me of Doggerland, an ancient ice age area in NW Europe still to be fully understood.

But most archaeologists now think the stone balls were made mainly for artistic purposes, perhaps to signify a person's status in their community or to commemorate an important phase of their lives,

No.

This is the default nitwitery in archaeology right now.

Everything is about Status.

Because people on the edge of survival have all this time to spend making things that have absolutely no use what so ever.

They have even said that hill forts were about Status.

It is just a take off on this stupid Privilege BS they push in school.
