Hospitalizing unvaccinated Americans cost nearly $6 billion over three months, report says

Hospitalizing Americans who aren't vaccinated against the coronavirus is leading to billions of dollars in unnecessary health care costs, according to a new analysis.

Over a recent three-month period, the cost of treating unvaccinated COVID-19 patients around the U.S. amounted to $5.7 billion, the report from the Kaiser Family Foundation and Peterson Center on Healthcare concluded. Drawing on hospital admissions and public health data, the groups based that estimate on the roughly 287,000 hospitalizations among unvaccinated people between June and August. They assumed the cost of their care at $20,000 per person, citing Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services data and other research....

...As of November 2020, nearly 90% of insured individuals would have had their out-of-pocket costs — including copays, coinsurance or payments toward a deductible — waived if they had been hospitalized for COVID-19, according to KFF.

Now, with vaccines widely available, more than 70% of the nation's largest insurers are no longer waiving COVID-19 treatment costs, according to Kaiser, which surveyed the two largest insurers in each state and Washington, D.C.. Another 10% of plans plan to phase out cost-sharing by the end of October....

That will take away a major incentive for families to want to be given a Covid diagnosis.

How much did hospitalizing the 50% of Covid cases that were mild or asymptomatic cost? Or the extra 20% add on for Covid payments from the cares act?

I’ve also heard it said that”fully vaccinated” means two weeks has to have passed since the second inoculation, otherwise you’re considered “unvaccinated”.

for now, monoclonals are the cream of the crop - seems good to prevent infections going to serious stage and gives you a month or so extra defense to think about what you're going to do next.

The problem with p's and t's is, they gotta do the same research on them, that everyone demands of vaccines. Can't demand 5 years for one and 2 months for another. The African study which is specifically looking for low-cost p's and t's wasn't promising for some drugs and neither are the McMasters 3-nation studies. But researchers are still trying.

Here's one that is in phase 2/3 trials in the US and Africa you might not have heard about, but until now only 200 study participants so who knows the side effects when one is trying to target a few cells and not all cells:

Red Hill's About RHB-107 (upamostat)

of or with doesnt' really matter if the with makes the original nonlethal complaint deadly; even a broken leg pays the hospital more than a covid isolation admission ;)

FWIW, I know a few people who weren’t treated until they presented with COVID pneumonia.

Lovely, eh? No early treatments were provided. One was even told that there were NO treatments for CoupFlu by the provider the patient first saw.

None of them have been treated with anything other than the z-pack and zinc after they developed their complications.

None of them required hospitalization.

All have recovered, with continuing loss of smell the only lingering issue.

The article seems to imply, without really saying, that every single unvaxxed hospitalization was for the china flu.

“How much are the unvaccinated illegals costing us?”

A lot. Because if we knew the truth, we would find that a huge percentage of COVID cases in the past eight months are illegals. Not just new arrivals, but existing illegal families where the new ones go to live, who work as housekeepers, lawn maintenance, painters, restaurants, etc. They do not get treatment because of their illegal status until they are so sick, they have to be hospitalized.

Meanwhile, FWIW...

How much to hospitalize addicts, homeless, criminal gunshot/stabbing victims? I recently asked a nurse who works at multiple ERs in my area what ground truth is in the ICUs. She confirmed my suspicions. Less than 10% of all patients are COVID patients, the problem is the ICU beds are always full of 1) Addicts/homeless with chronic health problems, 2) Elderly with end of life illnesses, 3) Gunshot/stabbings/assaults (criminals, rarely innocent victims). Hospitals are a business, they cannot afford to maintain some great excess capacity of beds, so they are poorly prepared for ANY surge, for any reason. It is a constant race to get a patient stable enough to move off ward and pull in the next critical care case from triage. In a city hospital with 33 ICU beds, she said 1 to 3 COVID positive patients is about what they have seen consistently throughout the “pandemic”, with similar numbers at the other regional hospitals. I would love to see a study that goes to EVERY hospital and does a bed by bed breakdown to show this truth... I think there are a very small number of hosptials with lots of COVID cases, but they are exceptions that the media trots out as the norm. Interestingly, my nurse’s primary hospital had to close one of their cardiac wards last week because 40% of the nurses refused to get the jab. The hospital backed down and gave them 60 more days and allowed them to return to work.

This article is BS propaganda because it fails also present the hospitalization costs of those who have been vaccinated.

So, let’s go ahead and play the game. The BS claim of the article is that the medical costs of unvaccinated cost $6 billion over three months. But the total medical expenditure the US is 3.8 trillion in a year (2019). If the total annual expenditure of the unvaccinated is 4 x $6 billion = $24 billion, then the total annual cost of the vaccinated, i.e. everybody else, must be $3.8 trillion - 0.024 trillion ($24 billion) = $3.776 trillion dollars a year. Seems like getting vaccinated isn’t such a moneysaver after all.

I wonder if the Nazis carried articles about “how much the Jews had cost Germany”, i.e. without any counterbalancing data or analysis, because that’s how slanted and useless this article is.

ya, but then you gotta go back to the 99% survival thingy. Virus are man versus nature. There isn’t much to do for you until you’re having breathing issues, because, virus is not a bacteria right? We’re lucky we have monoclonals, and even they have side effects possible and limitations but it’s worth the risk. Back in April? May? zpak and zinc were all the rage. AZ is one of the toughest bacterialcides we have that has some antiviral properties. Don’t forget, this is still a new thing, we’re driving in a snowstorm trying to stay on the road, here.

It is true, I have seen that footnote to data on many CDC charts as well as my state’s vaccination stats page.

I think you’re mistaken. 5.6% of the ivers needed hospitalization and were mechanically ventilated at 5.25 days vs placebo 10 days. IVERCOR randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, and I don’t think it did any better in the McMasters trials that ran in 3 SoAm countries. And I liked the idea of iver, too.

I could put up double-blind studies like the below link all day but if people aren’t going to accept that darn it, something doesn’t work after all, what’s the use? It isn’t fun that we’ve got a choice of vaccine or monos, but that’s where it’s at now until the researchers find something better. Know your location for monoclonals, hope you’re in the 99%, and keep praying for a better solution :)
