New research from Trinity College and University of Edinburgh has examined the association between vitamin D and COVID-19, and found that ambient ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation (which is key for vitamin D production in the skin) at an individual's place of residence in the weeks before COVID-19 infection, was strongly protective against severe disease and death.
Previous studies have linked vitamin D deficiency with an increased susceptibility to viral and bacterial respiratory infections. Similarly, several observational studies found a strong correlation between vitamin D deficiency and COVID-19.
To overcome this, researchers were able to calculate "genetically-predicted" vitamin D level, that is not confounded by other demographic, health and lifestyle factors, by using the information from over one hundred genes that determine vitamin D status.
The Mendelian Randomisation is a particular analytical approach that enabled researchers to investigate whether vitamin D and COVID-19 might be causally linked using genetic data. Few earlier studies attempted this but failed to show a causal link. This could be because UVB radiation sunshine which is the most important source of vitamin D for majority of people was ignored.
Researchers, for the first time, looked at both genetically-predicted and UVB-predicted vitamin D level. Almost half a million individuals in the UK took part in the study, and ambient UVB radiation before COVID-19 infection was individually assessed for each participant. When comparing the two variables, researchers found that correlation with measured vitamin D concentration in the circulation was three-fold stronger for UVB-predicted vitamin D level, compared to genetically-predicted.
What were the findings?
Researchers found that ambient UVB radiation at an individual's place of residence preceding COVID-19 infection was strongly and inversely associated with hospitalization and death. This suggests that vitamin D may protect against severe COVID-19 disease and death.

Thank you!!
I have heard that and my daughter who is an RN said the same thing. Take the D with K.
I have been trying to get at least 15 min of sun exposure, as my levels are very low in spite of supplementation.
I had my gallbladder removed 25 yrs ago -apparently that contributes to poor absorption of (fat-soluble) vitamin D
Only problem with my sunshine plan is that it is sort lived...I’m in WI.
That being said, I survived Covid last Nov. in spite of low D levels and other comorbidities
I saw an article once that listed the things that show that you should be taking Vitamin D supplements. Living in a Northern State, living in a place where you don’t get a lot of direct sunlight, having fair skin. I think there were a couple of others; but, I hit every single one, so I started taking Vitamin D supplements.
In FL you can go get the REGENERON TREATMENT for free thanks to our Governor Desantis. I went last Sunday. They say at that one office they get around 200 people in a day. Open 7 Days a week, 9-5.
Going back in January for another.
They certainly did, and here many people went out walking in the evil sunlight, maskless in the open air. To anyone with common sense, fresh air and sunshine keep you well and also promote healing of you are sick. Do you ever wonder if the cause of skin cancer is not UVB from the sun but something else? Have they got the slaves slathering sunscreen on themselves to make them sick?
I do believe those both help people, so yes.
How can they just correlate to the individual's place of residence without accounting for how much time the person spends indoors vs outdoors, whether the person wears long sleeves and pants vs short sleeves and shorts, average cloud cover at that place of residence, etc.? I presume "place of residence" is a surrogate for latitude. Of course, if all the subjects were in the UK, then they get zero Vitamin D from sunshine.
(Just kidding, Brits. Just kidding)
Do you take ox bile or any other substitute for your missing gallbladder?
Good for you!
The Norwegian Vitamin D calculator, taking into account date, latitude, altitude, skin tone, cloud cover...etc.

5000 iu 1-2x per day…
What are the requirements?
Do you have to test positive for covid?
Do you have to be a Florida resident?
“What are the requirements?”
As far as I know there are no requirements. I think out of state are welcome, just need a ID.
Not on a regular basis....I should
“TUDCA” and “Bile Acid Factors/bile acids” are things you need. Don’t need to OD on them, but you know they help your body properly break down fat. You need Omega 3 and Omega 6, as they are essential fatty acids.
Welcome to the party, finally, Univ of Edinburgh!
This has been known by docs, like Zev Zelenko, George Fareed , Ryan Cole and NUMEROUS others, since LAST year.

President Joe Biden’s administration may reportedly implement a new policy to limit the number of antibody treatments shipped to some states with high demands for it, possibly curtailing the medicine for states with Republican governors, Politico reports.
According to Politico, the Biden administration is “imposing new limits on states’ ability to access to Covid-19 antibody treatments amid rising demand from GOP governors who have relied on the drug as a primary weapon against the virus.”:
Federal health officials plan to allocate specific amounts to each state under the new approach, in an effort to more evenly distribute the 150,000 doses that the government makes available each week.
