Everyone else is replaceable but if you are the singer it's like a different band when you put someone else in (if that singer is really well known and a big part of your sound, that is). Yes, but there were a few that could continue...
-AC/DC
-The Cars
-Genesis
-Deep Purple
-Iron Maiden
-Lynyrd Skynyrd
-Pink Floyd

Some of the youtube videos of Stevie doing solo work have this long haired guy who has done a lot of work for various artists...also had a child porn issue
He was good but not as good as Lindsey on the old songs.

I appreciate the entire Fleetwood Mac catalog. As for Peter Green, that first album was basically an Elmore James record. But I like Elmore James so that was fine with me too.
The only Fleetwood Mac song I cannot stand is "Don't Stop" from Rumours. Basically because Bill Clinton hijacked that song for his 1992 campaign.

Lindsay has the most powerful guitar sound I’ve heard. Further, his solo album “Go Insane” was really great. Lindsay also did the theme song for the movie “Vacation” - “Holiday Road”

Fleetwood Mac stopped forty years ago.

I see what you did there.
DW Suite, which closes with the Garry Owen is a favorite.

Commentary on your list:
- AC/DC: Went with as close to a clone of Bon Scott as they could find. They hit it out of the park, he wasn't a clone and he was great. Good example.
- The Cars: Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they 'replaced' Ben Orr with Rick Ocasek. Rick had sung half of their hits, if not more. Ocasek just sang the rest of them on that reunion tour. Does that count?
- Genesis: Great example. Gabriel and Collins are very different but it worked very well.
- Deep Purple: Okay, just don't think the singer for DP was really the big seller for the band. It was Ritchie Blackmore.
- Iron Maiden: Yeah, a bunch of times. But they keep going back to Bruce Dickinson (who was not the first but is the one people think of most)
- Lynyrd Skynyrd: The Ultimate replacement clone. Brother who looked, sang, and even dressed the same as Ronnie Van Zandt.
- Pink Floyd: You mean after Syd Barrett? Okay, but I don't think Pink Floyd was huge yet so Barrett was not synonymous with their sound. If you mean when Watters left the bad, Gilmour had been singing half the songs for decades already by then so he just carried on singing all the new ones himself.
I think one you missed was Van Halen. Their style and their image changed totally overnight when Sammy Hagar took over. Love 'em or hate 'em (plenty of folks on both sides) they were even MORE successful commercially with Hagar.
I suppose the Grateful Dead carrying on without Jerry Garcia applies too, but technically they don't bill themselves as the Grateful Dead so you could say they are a different band. But come on, they're not fooling anyone :-)

Can you have Fleetwood Mac without massive amounts of cocaine? Probably not.

Er, Fleetwood Mac was successful long before Stevie Nicks showed up.

Sorry, the post Peter Green Fleetwood Mac WAS Lindsey Buckingham. Never could stand her gypsy bohemian schtick. He always wrote the best songs and his guitar work was crazy good. Even if he is nuts

I cannot listen to Nicks. To me, she sounds like a bleating wounded goat.

Thanks. I thought I was the only one the felt that way.

You cant have Fleetwood Mac now without Stevie
Thus, when she demands more of the pie and doesn’t get it...they cant put in another singer to go on Tour
You either go with Stevie or you dont go.
Do you think they can just go with Mcvie? Nope. If they could..they would.
If it is an ultimatum that Stevie won’t go on tour with Lindsey so it is “either him or me”...they dropped him like a bad fish. She rules the roost.
And she doesn’t like Lindsey making that claim...
