United Airlines told its staff on Wednesday that those who are granted religious exemptions from getting vaccinated against the coronavirus will be placed on a temporary unpaid leave, CNBC reported.
In August, United became the first major U.S. airline to issue a vaccine mandate for its employees. Employees were given until five weeks after the Pfizer vaccine was granted full approval or until Oct. 25 to present proof of being fully vaccinated. As the Food and Drug Administration granted the Pfizer vaccine full approval on Aug. 23, employees will have until Sept. 27 to get fully vaccinated.
"We have no greater responsibility to you and your colleagues than to ensure your safety when you're at work, and the facts are crystal clear: everyone is safer when everyone is vaccinated," United CEO Scott Kirby and President Brett Hart said to employees in a memo obtained by The Hill last month.
Now United is telling its employees that those who apply for a religious exemption and are denied must get their first shot by Sept. 27 or they will be terminated, CNBC reported. United staffers who are granted medical exemptions will reportedly be placed on temporary medical leave.
Employees who directly interact with customers such as pilots, flight attendants and gate agents who are granted an exemption will be permitted to return to work "once the pandemic meaningfully recedes," United reportedly said, though the airline did not specify a timeline.
Mechanics and dispatchers who are also given exemptions may return to work once United implements new testing procedures and other mitigation measures, according to CNBC.

Not very friendly, United.
So glad I don’t work there anymore.
Yup
United employees who took the religious exemption were supposed to get a reasonable accommodation. UNPAID LEAVE IS NOT REASONABLE. THEY WILL GET SUED AND LOSE.
yes, and nobody could prove that the shot didn’t go into the arm.
they can’t fire us all
The easy answer is to let people who want the cv19vx take it, and those who don’t not take it. The legislatures can immunize businesses from cv19 lawsuits and ban mandates of any kind. Idiots who take the cv19vx while remaining obese, low in blood levels of vitD and eating poorly are going to die long before the rest of us regardless.
Not down the sink. Into a container to be incinerated.
Companies such as United Airlines need to be fined for stock manipulation. They’re illegally having a layoff without announcing it because they know it will affect their stock price.
You may well be on to something there...
Probably depends on where the flights are coming from or going to.
One of our female relatives finished a 5 day 12-12 icu shift at the east coast hospital and returned to her NYC apartment to find no heart/ac and impure water. She and a full plane from Philly came to SFO on Sunday.
A DIL had flown to Denver for her annual summer visit with a relative there. Both flights going to Denver and back to Sacramento were full.
A husband and wife neighbors of the above DIL, flew back from their summer in Seattle this past Sunday, and the plane was half full. It landed in SFO.
What is in shortage are the buses and vans to and from the airports.
Sounds like discrimination or religious persecution to me.
Means nothing in this case.
Well there’s a lawsuit.
In California this would be actionable under the Fair Employment & Housing Act. And I think this is t the only jurisdiction where that would be the case
"Oops! The United Airlines morons just opened a multi-billion dollar suit against themselves for religious discrimination."
That is the first thing I thought. They are being persecuted for religious beliefs and there's no way United can get away with. United is apparently just giving a knee jerk response. Hope it costs them big.

They should also be canceled due to lack of customers. People need to take a stand.
I’d stay off airlines since jabbed pilots are dangerous.
exactly
