Have not read all of the comments, so please pardon me if this has already been brought up.
The posted text mentions the galactic center but never relates how far away it is. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is estimated to be 100,000-200,000 light years in diameter. Our solar system is located in the inner portion of one of its spiral arms, and our distance from the galactic center is about 24,000-26,000 light years.

Yes.
A large rotating mirror ball in a disco with a spotlight on it could be confusing to astronomers. This radio message information could change everything.
The off and on blinking look of flashing used to be thought to be an eclipsing binary star system (distant stars each crossing in front of each other as seen from Earth.)
