The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
From the Arkansas Democrat Gazette
Solve it in under 2 minutes if you can
Clever little quote today with a lot of contractions.
Finish off those first, then you should see it open up like a ripe banana
Yeah, he came to mind immediately...
A most excellent clue!

MONEY IS BETTER THAN POVERTY, IF ONLY FOR FINANCIAL REASONS. - WOODY ALLEN
HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER
I started with the double letter of the first name, then assumed the second letter of the first name, and then that opened up the single letter word and the contractions, and it was off to the finish from there.

56.20 I couldn’t help seeing some of the visual clues. They gave me a lead on the author, and with the contractions, it was pretty much just typing after that.
Yeah, this one was fun, and a really good one for those who are starting out.
I’m wondering how many people out there are doing these each day?
Would be nice to know. Are ping list is several dozen.
We probably should have two times. Time to solve the puzzle, and time that includes the author.
I think it should be the former rather than the latter.
I thought the author was Don Rumsfeld, but the first name had four letters
This is one where the clues gave away (not objectionably) the name, and that made the puzzle easy. Names like Ralph Waldo Emerson or Henry David Thoreau (5-5-7, with distinct patterns) are gimmes. Mark Twain is common, and the shared “a” makes it easy to spot. Most of the time there are enough letters in the quote to fill in enough of the name to guess, as in _AMES _AL_WIN or _OHN S_ITH. I could snap the lap timer when I complete the name or quote and easily get individual times.
I’ll try it tomorrow, but sometimes the name comes first, sometimes the quote.
I don’t follow football enough to have recognized the author, so I had to do the slow way with contractions.
Ha!
Huh?
Started with the 5th word, then the contractions, and then it was just filling in the rest.
