On the front lines, here’s what the seven stages of severe COVID-19 look like

I’m a respiratory therapist. With the fourth wave of the pandemic in full swing, fueled by the highly contagious Delta variant, the trajectory of the patients I see, from admission to critical care, is all too familiar. When they’re vaccinated, their COVID-19 infections most likely end after Stage 1. If only that were the case for everyone.

Get vaccinated. If you choose not to, here’s what to expect if you are hospitalized for a serious case of COVID-19.

Stage 1. You’ve had debilitating symptoms for a few days, but now it is so hard to breathe that you come to the emergency room. Your oxygen saturation level tells us you need help, a supplemental flow of 1 to 4 liters of oxygen per minute. We admit you and start you on antivirals, steroids, anticoagulants or monoclonal antibodies. You’ll spend several days in the hospital feeling run-down, but if we can wean you off the oxygen, you’ll get discharged. You survive.

Unvaxxed, I had a tough stage 1, dipped into stage 2 (high-flow oxygen), killed all the ‘ronas, took a couple of weeks to gather my strength, went home.

By the way. vaxxed people can die, too.

This is fear porn.

Exactly...why don’t they send you home with Ivermectin? Are they afraid you might get better?

I just had a cousin die 2 weeks ago yesterday from Covid. She and her husband were really sick. She had been to the doc....go home, take Tylenol and if you get really sick go to the ER. She never made it to the ER. She went to sleep and never woke up. I think her heart stopped since she was in the exact position she went to sleep in when they found her. The day after she died the kids took the hubby in for an infusion (not sure what kind) and they gave him a script for Ivermectin. The next day he was so much better that when the kids got there he was on the ride mower.
I have a real problem with this take 2 Tylenol and go home stuff.

"...I’m very suspicious of those who are highly hypocritical..."

Actually, that is very much at the heart of my fundamental opposition not just to this, but to a large share of Leftist ideologically driven agendas.

When we see the Leftists screeching about how bad global warming is, then watch them all flying private jets and helicopters into Martha's Vineyard like spoiled little kids who have been invited to Obama's birthday party, I tend to doubt their claims that the world is going to end. And I feel the same way about the purchase of the $11.75 million dollar estate near sea level they all flocked to.

And then, I see them all those people at that party, the same ones pushing for masks, shutdowns, vaccinations, limits on gatherings and vaccination passports because this virus is so damned deadly that that their policies are necessary to protect us "rubes" from our own poor judgement, air kissing each other on the cheek and rubbing elbows, well, yeah.

That kind of thing only adds to my level of suspicion and makes me dig in my heels.

Thank you for that post, and I sure am glad to hear you are doing well.

Of all the things that make me angry and suspicious about the way this whole thing is being handled, is the absolute unwillingness to discuss or explore treatment options other than expensive and relatively scarce monoclonal antibodies.

NIH: COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines

They seem insistent on treating it as a traditional flu with hydration, bed rest and such, and if you get sick enough to go to the hospital, you might get a hospital bed, IV fluids, oxygenation, and antibodies offered, but then what? A ventilator?

Just as irritating, the guidelines say this:

"...The Panel recommends using anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 and for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) of SARS-CoV-2 infection in individuals who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, as outlined in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs). While there are currently no shortages of these monoclonal antibodies, logistical constraints (e.g., limited space, not enough staff who can administer therapy) can make it difficult to administer these agents to all eligible patients. In this statement, the Panel offers suggestions for how to prioritize the use of monoclonal antibodies for treatment or PEP when there are logistical constraints for administering therapy..."

So, instead of doing what normal people do in emergencies (and they talk about this as the most exigent public health emergency since The Spanish Flu) in which important resources become scarce or non-existent, they talk about...triage. Determining who might survive if they get the scarce treatment, and "hoping" others don't cross into that threshold of need.

Yes. That makes me both angry and deeply suspicious. Incompetence doesn't explain it.

I understand that hospitals are unlikely to cross instructions from the CDC, NIH and the government by deviating from the "official" guidelines because if they did, they won't get reimbursed, and probably opens them up to lawsuits, so I blame those entities far more than the individual hospitals.

That is my issue with this. I have zero faith this was “Oh, we need to educate the public” with this by publishing the letter to the editor. This is more “fear-porn”.

I do not dispute at all the characterization of the disease progression.

I dispute every other thing surrounding this piece, and I most especially despise the Leftist issue advocacy it stinks of.

Medical science is not bombs.

The CDC is not science.

Stage 1. You’ve had debilitating symptoms for a few days, but now it is so hard to breathe that you come to the emergency room.

It's too bad all the good doctors taking advice from the CDC won't do anything to help you during Stage 1. If you’ve had debilitating symptoms for a few days, you likely noticed lesser symptoms for a few days before that. Ivermectin for the five day outpatient treatment probably would have fixed you right up and prevented you from getting to the point of debilitating symptoms.

Your cousin SHOULD have had access to Ivermectin and/or HCQ where it would have been HER CHOICE which protocol to follow. I am sorry she wasn’t given that opportunity. :-(

My doc specifically told me....if you test positive for Covid give us a call. I’m prescribing Ivermectin.
I’ve gone all this time without getting it and have never stopped going. Haven’t really taken any extra precautions. He chalked it up to My Vitamin D, C, and NAC protocol. I was taking all those before Covid hit.

https://www.revolutionhealth.org/nebulized-hydrogen-peroxide/

A few drops of iodine in the peroxide is recommended also. Azythromycine or doxycyline doesn’t hurt either and the latter is available as a fish antibiotic which is identical to the human stuff but doesn’t require a prescription.

I agree with the vitamin C, D3, Quercetin and zinc regimen...so far, so good...better to keep COVID ‘at bay’.

Interesting, indeed.

I have a friend who takes HCQ, for an autoimmune disease. She added zinc, Vit C and D to her regimen, early last year.

So far, so good.

Hope all recover quickly and completely.

Are you a government scientist or a privately funded scientist? I ask because government scientists like Mr. Fauxi have taken it upon themselves to take our tax money to fund banned gain-of-function experiments.

Fauci has an MD. Most MDs are not scientists.

Tell you to go home and take Tylenol and if you get really sick go to the ER? Why not treat it before it gets bad?!?!

The hospitals get paid if they use ventilators. They make more money by treating a severe case. They don’t treat mild cases, these cases become severe, and then they treat.
