Estimated US Infection- and Vaccine-Induced SARS-CoV-2 Seroprevalence Based on Blood Donations, July 2020-May 2021

Key Points

Question Based on blood donations in the US from July 2020 through May 2021, how did infection- and vaccine-induced SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence vary over time by demographic group and by geographic region?

Findings In this repeated cross-sectional study that included 1 443 519 blood donation specimens from a catchment area representing 74% of the US population, estimated SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence weighted for differences between the study sample and general population increased from 3.5% in July 2020 to 20.2% for infection-induced antibodies and 83.3% for combined infection- and vaccine-induced antibodies in May 2021. Seroprevalence differed by age, race and ethnicity, and geographic region of residence, but these differences changed over the course of the study.

Meaning Based on a sample of blood donations in the US from July 2020 through May 2021, estimated SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence increased over time and varied by age, race and ethnicity, and geographic region.

Importance People who have been infected with or vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 have reduced risk of subsequent infection, but the proportion of people in the US with SARS-CoV-2 antibodies from infection or vaccination is uncertain.

Results Among 1 443 519 specimens included, 733 052 (50.8%) were from women, 174 842 (12.1%) were from persons aged 16 to 29 years, 292 258 (20.2%) were from persons aged 65 years and older, 36 654 (2.5%) were from non-Hispanic Black persons, and 88 773 (6.1%) were from Hispanic persons. The overall infection-induced SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence estimate increased from 3.5% (95% CI, 3.2%-3.8%) in July 2020 to 20.2% (95% CI, 19.9%-20.6%) in May 2021; the combined infection- and vaccination-induced seroprevalence estimate in May 2021 was 83.3% (95% CI, 82.9%-83.7%). By May 2021, 2.1 SARS-CoV-2 infections (95% CI, 2.0-2.1) per reported COVID-19 case were estimated to have occurred.

I have not had time to digest this very important report yet, but I post it here for others to read and comment as well.

This is important because the CDC finally concedes the reality of natural immunity. This should help people exempt themselves from vaccine mandates based upon natural immunity.

I donate platelets every other week. I’m HLA-typed, so mine often go to cancer patients who are a match. I’ve been told by several of the phlebotomists that while COVID infection is not a disqualifier, it can bump my donation into a more general pool to prevent antibody dependent enhancements in immunocompromised cancer patients. This is a big reason for my abstinence from the vaccine.

I don’t believe that we will ever really know the true scope of the China bioweapon flu..

The governments of the world never kept track of ALL the data that was needed to provide accurate data.

IMHO, done on purpose.

It’s over my head.

I look forward to someone’s simpler explanation.

Thanks for posting.

Should, but won't in many cases. Seems companies can be as power hungry as the government and demand proof of vaccination for employment or for entry into their facilities.

Well that was very quick from you, rarestia!

I really hope you can apply your skills and insights to the contents of this brand new, extremely important study from the CDC, and let us know what you think.

Interesting if I read this correctly, they project only about 66 Million Americans had been infected (20% of population) as of May 2021. That’s only a little more than 2X the official “case” number at the time. Even the CDC had been projecting something more like 3-5X or well over 100 million naturally infected.

The larger point is that 83% of US population has antibodies from either natural infection or vaccine - but that means a very high proportion of this is vaccine induced immunity which we know now wanes over time and does not prevent infection very well from the now dominant Delta variant. No wonder we are seeing so many rising cases this summer in the US.

Oh, they've kept track. They are just not telling us.

Seroprevalence estimates indicate that the number of COVID-19 cases reported are fewer than the number of SARS-CoV-2 infections that have occurred, likely because many mildly symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals did not seek testing or clinical care.

So more people have immunity either from infection or vaccination than the numbers they're using. This is good news. It won't get a second glance from Fauci and his ilk, but this should indicate that current lockdowns and masking are even less necessary than they were before. Huzzah.

I believe you are reading it correctly.

I also believe the dramatic differences in infection recovery generated antibodies (20%) and vaccination generated antibodies (an additional 63%) is of very great concern

My concern is based on two very important points:
1: there are rapidly increasing indications that the vaccine does NOT prevent infection, it now is promoted to "reduce the seriousness of infection damage"
2: In another thread, I discussed an autopsy of an individual who died 4 weeks after the Covid-19 vaccination. The autopsy showed strong antibodies to the Spike protein (generated by the vaccine), but NO antibodies resulting from actual Covid-19 infection.

First case of postmortem study in a patient vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3991743/posts

In the case of that autopsy, the above facts indicate that the death could not have been the result of actual Covid-19 infection (there was none), but MIGHT have been related to the vaccine from 4 weeks earlier.

Is that a measure of the actual risk of the vaccine itself?

That's really the question, isn't it? I dont know the answer, but I'm certainly concerned.

I was self=employed at 17 years of age ....I wrote my first contract for staining a mans house and it was the beginning of my construction career....I do not need anyone’s permission to work. If you base your fiscal future on someone else’s whim....you may get the rug pulled out from underneath you.I am now 59 and choose what job’s I want to do. Only by Gods protection is this sinner seeking his grace even able to post this.

Haha, mythenjoseph! That’s OK anyway. Mask and vaccine mandates are of much concern here, too.

Did the phlebotomists warn that the covid —infection— could cause antibody dependent enhancements in immunocompromised cancer patients?

Or that the shot could cause ADE?

Or that both infection and shot could cause it?

I don’t believe they have.

That way there’s no paper trail. No evidence.

Now that I have read through this study, I offer my opinions and personal reactions.

The importance and objective of this study are well served by this report

It's a well done study, based on a logical and good rationale.

The detailed outline of settings, methods, tools used, specifics of tests utilized, etc. is well done, and justifies confidence in the validity if this study.

It covers very significant periods, and collected a very significant amount of data, well organized and presented for appropriate subdivisions of individuals surveyed.

Its summary of results is well organized and quite detailed, and fairly easy to understand.

In the discussion I found this statement, which I like: These data demonstrate the increases in SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence that occurred due to vaccination and illustrate differences in infection- and vaccine-induced antibody prevalence. The study will continue until at least December 2021, and results will be made available on the CDC’s website.1

Overall, I believe this is a step above the mostly complex and/or misleading guidelines I have become accustomed to from this CDC. I am happy to accept it at face value, and recommend it is well worth your study and critical review.

Note: Do NOT conclude that my favorable comments about this report indicate that I agree in any way with shutdowns, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, or even the Covid-19 vaccine itself.

My endorsement of this study only means I think it is a valid study that provides critically useful information.

It's now up to use to analyze that information to f\perfect our understandings and conclusions.
