Approximately 3-4 years ago, my local Walmart did a makeover, and they stopped carrying a lot of the brand named products they used to offer. They have been pushing their own Great Value brand. I used to be able to buy the small DAK canned hams there, but they now only offer their own brand. If I wanted the DAK, I had to purchase it from them online, and I had to buy a 3-Pack. Thankfully they last a while, because it's only me here.
I was in Walmart this morning and I was lucky enough to grab the last couple of half gallons of Vanilla Almond milk. Almond milk is becoming harder to find.
My European Cheeses were nowhere to be found and I can no longer find the large boxes of pre-sliced Tennessee Pride Sausage.
The last several trips to purchase groceries, I’ve encountered empty and almost empty shelves.
I’m becoming concerned.
I remember at the start of the pandemic - - when stores were hit hard - walking into a Publix and seeing they had put out frozen turkeys (out of season) and large frozen fish to fill freezer cases - - discouraging panic. It worked. (Well, other than toilet paper...) The beauty of capitalism is there's a good chance it'll continue to work...
LOL, was that YOU?
Weird though I haven’t been to walmart lately. Our little GW Foods has full shelves as does Town & Country Supermarkets.
Crawford/Dent counties.
Which video is it? I want to send it to my work buddy.
We have over 8 million reported active positive cases. Accurate test or not, those people will be told to quarantine. Then you have those they've exposed, found by contact tracing -- and there is a LOT of contact tracing still going on. They'll be quarantined too, at least until their test result comes back. This is a huge group. Then you have anybody with some symptom, be it from an allergy or some other respiratory bug (some are still going around). Add up all those included, then figure roughly 1/3 are employed, but temporarily "off" due to Covid. Then you have the "excuses" people: add them. Do not include people on legitimate vacations and such.
I believe this gives us on any one day at least 10 million "employed" people not actually working due to Covid.
The interesting thing I’ve noticed is that at least in our Wal Mart grocery, the greatest shortages in the last few months have been in their own “Great Value” and Sams brands, esp. when it comes to items like canned food, soda, snacks, TP, and so on.
They got a peek at how we behaved during the Ass-Wipe Rapture of 2020, and they have to be chomping at the bit, knowing how easy it will be to throw us into chaos.
THAT product shortage is likely due to the water shortages in CA, and high demand worldwide for almond products. Some searching will show that the subject has been beat to death on FR. But, suffice it to say, given the average climate in CA over the last several thousands of years, and the present population, almonds are an unsustainable product, there. As are several others. Even some of the fisheries are probably only sporadically practical.
All it takes to empty shelves is the idea that shelves are being emptied. This is why price controls and rationing are so dangerous:
- if shelves are being emptied and prices remain the same, the shelves will be emptied: scarcity results.
- if shelves are being emptied and prices rise, demand will drop and supply will rise: stock equilibrium will be found.
You did not mention anything about the government’s intervention into the situation. We don’t have functioning supply/demand economy anymore.
Rent forgiveness and supplemental payments have encouraged many to stay home...Around here rent forgiveness would be quite a huge subsidy.
Some may get more staying home than a small business owner can realistically pay.
That can be, however, a dangerously short term approach.
Why mention it at all? There has always been politics intermingle with the economy. The cause is irrelevant. If you can't get people to work at wage $X then pay $X + $Y. Again the reason does not matter.
When I mention to younger shoppers that the shelves look like a Soviet grocery store they stare at me like a deer in headlights.
When I say it to guys my age and older they appreciate the humor.
I’ve noticed this for quite a while since the initial panic buying in early 2020. It seems like there are always different types of items that are missing or in short supply, but it’s very random.
“They got a peek at how we behaved during the Ass-Wipe Rapture of 2020, “
I still have a case left of those hallowed items.
Because our public schools/indoctrination centers have only taught CommieCore history, for the past decades, not REAL history.
These younger folks will be a-okay to repeat it, and won’t even know what is hitting them. :-(
I hit the local WalMart twice a month and make a point to go look at the sporting goods knife case. At full capacity there are over 80 knives on display. For the past 1/2 year+ the most I’ve seen is six.
The cause is very relevant. Again, unConstitutional rent forgiveness? That is a huge benefit from saying home. Not to mention extended payments and unemployment.
BTW, Just how much to you think a stocker at Walmart should make?
